The last day of the old year.  A year ago today Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Medlock were married & Leocadia [?] Braun got killed in an accident.  Papa went up town this morning to order his license & he went in the store first & they told him that the bank was closed.  Ted Eichenseer went down to see Jo. Braun, but he wasn’t at home.  When Braun came home, Arthur Barthel went down to the house to see him , & he asked him what it was shut for, & he said “for the Federal Reserve Banks, & to protect the depositors.  The sign was first on the door early this morning, last night it wasn’t on yet.  The signs say closed until further notice.  So I don’t know how long it will be closed.  It may not be long.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary were here this afternoon then went to Belleville.  They was to inquire about some beef for us from Streck’s Butcher Shop.  After they left, we all went out in the woods.  We also stopped in at Henry’s.  He has such an awful bad cold.  We all got an invitation to come to Hy. Ronederberg’s dance Sat. night.  Uncle Fred has to furnish the music.  Gene Mechler of Waterloo have a little baby boy since last week.
