Saturday, Dec. 10, 1932

It snowed last night, everything is white, & cold. George Wagner’s family & Mrs. Rennecker went to Belleville this afternoon. Geo. Boll went around selling meat & beef today. The Farm Bureau are giving a dance in the Odd Fellows hall tonite, members are free & other’s 25¢. Robert Laut’s family are visiting Rennecker’s this evening.

Friday, Sept. 30, 1932

We made a lb. of butter again this morn, but no chance selling it. Rosalia & Bertille went to Red Bud this afternoon to see Mr. Voss grocery store, wether [sic – whether] they buy cream, they buy it, so I guess will sell it there, 14¢ today, they are paying, take it anyday. While at Red Bud we went to see Mrs. Owen Fahey, she is pretty weak, but I guess will get along alright now the way the doctors’ say. She got operated last week on appendix, now a lump of matter formed, & they opened it up this afternoon while we were waiting. Marcella was there. Rosalia got a letter from Miss Bell asking us all to come & see her Sun. all day, so we stopped in there to & told her, we couldn’t come on Sun. Angela Eichenseer is getting along good at Belleville, she will come home by Mon. She got adenoid & tonsils & growth in mouth removed, she is in a room of 5 patients, it costs her $12 a week. Mrs. Griffin is so awful weak, she is on the same floor with Angela. I seen in the paper that we have a Dentist Schilling in town in Maniers place started last Wednesday.

Sunday, May 22, 1932

We went to Red Bud. Levi Gregson came here a little while, the rest where at church. George Wagner’s family prepared dinner, chicken, etc. & took it all down to Chas. Wagner, 25 Silver Wedding Ann. the whole relation, when it was supposed to be a surprized [sic], but I don’t think it was, they found it out. Three fellows from St. Joe where here & looked at the colts. We all went over to Stere’s & sat on his porch, the sun got too hot on ours. This eve, we went out to Uncle Fred’s, Chris Buehler’s family also came, we at popcorn, beer, & water.

Thursday, Nov. 12, 1931

We fixed a brick wall around the house for flowers today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, we helped her take her daliahs [sic] up. Miss Josie Keller is coming to Uncle Fred’s Sat. night, she is by Ben Henyl’s now.

Monday, August 31, 1931

We canned saurkraut, [sic] 8 qts from 2 gallons.  We washed this morning, started about 10 o clock, because it looked so like rain.  This afternoon we went out to Aunt Mary’s helped with the peaches.  We had lunch & supper there.  Henry & Leona came there too & left the kids there, while they went to Belleville.  She took a basket of peaches along from her, they also got a bu. from Ralph Collier’s at Waterloo, for 50¢.  This evening Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here, they went down to see Adam Eckert he is in bed, with Rhuematism [sic] since Sat a week, it started, he had to crawl in the house, it is so in his legs.  It was in the paper that Anton Buehler left Mon. for Mascoutah, where he will be the guest of Chas. Mueth’s family.

Sunday, August 2, 1931

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner & lunch.  They & Bertille went to see Adam Eckert place where he is going to move tomorrow.  It is a old place, the house looks awful.  George Lorberg has a little girl born this morning Georgia Lee.  This evening Rosalia & Bertille went up town when we heard the crash, George Lorberg’s truck with Edwin Wacthel driving as he was going to turn in his place, a car came & crash it went, the man was Busche from Red Bud, no one was hurt only cars damaged, they had to pull them in with a wrecking car.  Lorberg has full coverage insurance.  Edwin has no chaffeuer license & was drunk as could be.  Mr. Martin May was here this afternoon.
