Leo & Rose [Rosalia] went to Belleville, Marita stayed here; had dinner or lunch when they came back. Raining this afternoon & eve. We now got Pope Pious [sic] XII elected Wed. Cardinal Paccellie [sic – Pacelli]; 61 yrs. old. German band played for Hess girls from Hecker.

    Hi!
    I guess the Hess girls were my cousins.
    In 1939, only 2 would have been old enough to go dancing.
    Cathy would have been 6. Her birthday was today.
    I wonder what the occasion was.
    I don’t know of any other Hesses in Hecker.
