We had wash day. It is awful hot. The School children of the Catholic School had, a play last night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile, they are working in town today. Mr. Biebel & a truck from Vandalia came this morning & got the other colt, took it over to Meng’s & loaded it. Hy. Armstutz got our rake & brought it back again this afternoon. An eye doctor was around this morning. eggs are 8¢, papa took 12 doz. off.

Monday, Jan. 18, 1932

Wash day & a nice one. Rennecker’s butchering. We fryed [sic] some liver saussage [sic] in, because it is so warm. Levi Gregson got a jersey cow from Ed. Meng this morn. We went out to Henry’s got our hair cut, papa went up to the woods, Neff’s are making wood up there on halves [?]. Oliver Birkner came here & said we should call Aunt Mary & tell her Josie Keller came along out with Willie this eve, & they should get her. So Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here first then went there to get her. There was a dance at Chas. Helfrich’s last night. Lawrence Matthews & Pearl Geodelle where published for the first time Sun. they will be married Feb. 3 at Waterloo, dance in evening at Foster Pond.

Tuesday, August 4, 1931

Papa is picking the potatoes through.  Today is wash day, but it ain’t so very nice yet.  It rained again last night, so threshing is stopped for awhile.  Alsa Eckert was here, she wanted to know if we wanted some plums or peaches, the little peaches they sell for 50 bu. & the big ones next week for $1 bu., we didn’t order any yet.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up again this afternoon.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s, & then came home & fixed fence.  Uncle Fred went up to the priest & paid pew rent.

Monday, May 4, 1931

Philip left yesterday morn. at 4 oclock for a 1200 mile trip to N. Dakota again.  Today is wash day.  Papa & Rosalia went out in the woods, this afternoon.  Mrs. Katie Klotz was here & got 2 setting eggs for 12¢ a doz.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening.  Papa went up town & got coal oil to spray the chicken house.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for supper.
