Pap is working in the woods. The Ford garage dealer was here, left us a calander [sic] & almanac. Trast from Waterloo. Bert Thompson came to look at the colt. We went out to Henry’s; this evening, on Robert’s birthday 10 yrs. old, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to see Uncle Adam first, then stopped at the birthday. Joe Buss’s family came there to see the barn he has for sale, so they all came in the house; Mrs. Buss birthday will be Thurs. Berti milked this eve. Rose fells pretty good but still has a lump yet. Montgomery Ward Or. came today. Berti’s dress is pretty aqua, greenish blue, 34, little big.
Rain this morning. We got radio now, Joe Griffin fixed it. We bought apples from a guy from Muryphsboro [sic] this morn. Pap went out in the woods, stopped to see Uncle Adam first, he is pretty good. Berti got 16¢ for eggs. Thunder, lighten [lightning] & rain this evening.
Nice day, Rose has a swollen cheek, but doesn’t hurt & don’t get any larger, guess it is the mumps. Uncle Fred went to Waterloo to get his car fixed, she stayed here, her & Bertie went to see Wm. Birkner’s, & to Minnie Staufenbiel. Joe Griffin came looked at the radio, the B. batteries are shot, & A. is good, he put in new ones, going to take the others to Belleville, get them looked after. Uncle Adam rested pretty good last nite pap came home at 5:30, him & Emil stayed up all nite; Josie went home, Clara is coming this morning again. Josie has a sore leg. Rob. Lauts family was here this evening; had radio.
Cold this morning. Bertie got the mail; Pap went out to Uncle Adam’s this afternoon, he is not so good, talks out of his mind sometimes. Emil called up tonite said pap should come out, so he went to stay all nite. We planted out the rest of the cabbage plants.
Rose & Bert went out to see Uncle Adam, he is feeling pretty good this morning. Ed & Carrie is there, he shaved him, yesterday he wasn’t so good, got chills, the doctor gave him a shot & he slept from, then until 3:30 in afternoon. We & Aunt Mary went in to Belleville this afternoon; Rose got dress goods. Went to church this evening lent devotions. Out of that gas can from Brickey Oil Station we got 20¢. We planted 26 plants cabbage.
We all went to Henry’s; had dinner, papa sewed clover seed, & went to see Uncle Adam about 1 hr; we washed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, papa helped him stretch his wire fence; then he went home & got his plow, then we planted potatoes, he helped us; they had supper here. Mr. George Reheis 79 yrs. old died at 12:45 this afternoon, had been ailing for quiet [sic] awhile. Sure getting colder, wind, terrible.
Rose took pap out to Henrys sewing oats, she came back, he had dinner supper. We made butter, cleaned brooder house etc. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon; she went to church; we clipped the rose buses off, there all frozen. Went out to Henry’s this evening Floyd’s birthday 7 yrs. old; had cake, Geodelle were out awhile. Seen there chicks & new brooder house. Uncle Adam is still the same yet. Eggs 16¢.
Cold this morn. rained, & north wind. Papa went out to see Uncle Adam, he is better again, doctor comes everyday, he was sitting up again, pap took onion sets along for Emil, & seed for Leona, they went to E. St. Louis; today. Mrs. Hill came & got 1 gal. sour milk for 9¢ all she had brought. We went to Belleville, Bert got spring hat. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here, she visited Armstutz’s this afternoon. Church services tonite; we didn’t go. Rose went to Red Bud in morn, to Saxemeyer’s change the advertisement ad in there news. Levi Gregson came & got there onion sets from A. [Aunt] Mary.
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up early; also came last nite, Rose went to church with her; Uncle & pap went out to Uncle Adam’s, he fell again today; while Aunt Mary was there, he carried a rocker out in the kitchen, & then was going for his rocker, & fell on the floor. Emil was at Joe Gregsons. Uncle Fred & pap helped Emil get him to bed that evening, Levi & Clara came here after church, to see how he was, but Emil had called for them to come, so they & Joe’s all went out yet, he couldn’t stand it in bed; pap stopped in this morn. went he went out to the woods, going to get the doctor, he thinks it is fractured hip, Josie was out all nite. Pinkel agent for Nobbe chev. Co. was here wanted to see pap trade cars. Ed. Parker & Fr. Simon came also to see pap, & he wasn’t home. A year ago today Margaret McDermott died. Mr. Ed Weber & Gus Stehfest have new cars the paper says. Rose & Aunt Mary went to church.
Berti got the mail; not very much in it; Mrs. Pautler of Red Bud 94 yr. old was buried yesterday, Dr. N.B. Pautlers mother. The homes of Frank Einwich & Oscar Gremp & Rev. Kochkeim were on blaze during these cold days & nites & high winds; but not much damage was done to either place. Pap was up at Probsts garage, this morning the new battery didn’t work right; he went out to Henry’s this afternoon, & then they went up to make wood. Eggs are only 24¢ today. Bert was talking to Emil in town & he says Uncle Adam’s very well at all. Leona is also down in bed again, papa said when he came home; she has malaria.
