Monday, Oct. 2, 1933

We washed quilts etc. ironed; took flowers up. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, had lunch here, she took the tomatoes all along 1 bu. ½, we went out this evening helped cut them for catsup. Ed Pabst was here brought 6 bus. potatoes. Henry & Floyd brought sugar cane, he butchered a pig yesterday evening, weighed the meat 20 lbs; fryed [sic] some down. Clara Wagner got flowers; here. Form [?- unclear] are being laid now in town.

Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1932

We washed, ironed. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to meet that fellow there with the cow & calf, mule. Today school begins. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got the 2 mules, then he cut hay here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this morning. We cup up tomatoes for catsup a big pit full. Henry & family came up this evening & got a basket of yellow tomatoes for canning. Calf was born last Wed. Aug. 31.

Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1932

We washed, ironed, patched, cooked catsup, canned tomatoes, pickles & beans. Ben Valentine a deaf & dumb mute was here selling moth tabs for a living, he has a wife & 2 children & lives in Red Bud Ill., his wife is also like him, but his children can talk & hear, he had 2 brothers & 1 sister that don’t hear & talk, we took one for 15¢. There was man here from Sparta selling home grown peaches for $2.00 bu., there were nice, but we didn’t take any. Mr. Jung was here & got 9 doz. eggs. 15¢. Henry & family came up this evening & got tomatoes, the yellow ones, for canning.

Monday, Oct. 5, 1931

It rained this morn.  We washed, ironed.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here this afternoon started on Bertille’s dress.  The egg man was late this evening, pays 23 today.  We made some green tomatoes, cut them up for pickley Lily, cooked tomatoes for catsup.  Made pear preserves today.

Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1931

We all went out to Henry’s all day & helped dig potatoes, we had lunch, dinner there.  Leona cooked catsup 34 bottles she got some tomatoes from Aunt Lizzie.  This evening we cup up a bu. tomatoes for catsup & cooked them off.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile.

Friday, Sept. 25, 1931

We canned 7 qts. tomatoes & cooked catsup.  Papa hauled 2 loads of coal, this afternoon it rained.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up.  There where people around selling tomatoes $1. bu.  Henry & family where up awhile this eve. from here they went to Uncle Fred’s.  Papa got a letter an invitiation, [sic] we all & Aunt Mary should come up & see Fr. Grooten’s tonight, but we won’t go.  We gave Leona a basket ful to take along, the yellow ones, she is going to cook catsup from them.

Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1931

Aunt Mary gave us some pickles, & we canned 2 qts.  Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s to help can peaches, 9 qts. & 4 qts. beans, 6 pints pickles, she canned 16 qts tomatoes, got them from Aunt Lizzie for nothing, all real big tomatoes.  We had dinner there.  Papa was hauling wood.  Osie Neff was here & Clifford Stalbber was here & got 2½ doz. eggs @ 18¢.  There a lot of people working at the cemetery trying to help get it leveled off before tomorrow.  Today is Creses birthday 19 yrs. old.
