Thursday, Oct. 31, 1935

Halloween. Leona came & got the boy’s; they came home from the wedding, about 12 o’clock, Hilda’s dad didn’t come over; in the evening. Gus, Dan & Geo. Geodelle’s families were there, & Mrs. Susenwind & family were there all day; swell supper & beautiful cakes, 2 kegs beer. Started painting the houses, window frames today; Pap went to Red Bud got oil & things, chick feed. Walter & Hilda got 1 bedroom no kitchen, furniture from Querheim. Henry brought load corn. We went to Belleville. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, she won a quilt last night, playing 1 gamelotto.

Thursday, Sept. 28, 1933

Henry came up at 4:30 got the truck, took it home, loaded hogs, & came back again, took papa along, over to E. St. Louis stockyards, he got work from Hughes, to take them over on Suservind’s permit, government bought. It is raining, & awful dark all day. Clem Parker’s birthday is today 21 yrs old. Henry stayed for dinner. Bertille went over to Renneckers got quilt snowball sun flower pattern, we started the snowball, all little patches.

Sunday, April 17, 1932

We went to Red Bud, it rained last night & this morn, makes things grow now. The Red Bud Social Club are giving a play this evening. Mamie & Angela & Pete where here a little while this afternoon, papa went up town. Hy. Armstutz & Steve Rennecker was also here. They got a teacher from Burskville [sic- Burksville] to teach the 2 weeks out, she is Wm. Susenwind’s wife sister, she gets $50 for 2 weeks. Mrs. Rennecker is boarding her, she has her car in Uncle Fred’s shed. This evening we walked up to corner & listed to the musci [sic] awhile, Harry Kammler gave a dance, Smithon [sic- Smithton] orchestra. It was a nice crowd there. McCarthy was in town got his books & clothes & also went to the dance. Egg man from Red Bud got 20 doz. eggs from us for 9ยข.
