It is 5 above this morn. at St. Louis. Emil came & we went out butchering at Henry’s, had dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were also there; Mr. Horn 83 yrs. old was buried this afternoon from his home here, to Stehfests cemetery; we didn’t get there & didn’t see him.

Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1937

Catholic Schools open today. Canning peaches cooking catsup, etc. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed for supper last nite, then we all went to Smithton to Catholic Church pinic [sic]. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came Bert [Bertille] went along to Floraville dance, Viola Kaburcek birthday all free. Skaers Orch; nice crowd present. Hy Miller of Lords Corner is being buried at Stehfests cemetery this afternoon, Elsie Spalts husband 41 yrs. old had cancer nothing left to him, didn’t weigh 100 lbs. they said. Pap was at the cemetery; he belonged to Broad Hollow Grange & was a soldier, so they all had there ceremonies at cemetery; awful large funeral. Henry brought load of corn on frame wagon Billy [Willis] also. Levi Feurer stopped in looked at pigs. We went to. Ignatz Neffs got bottles & cans & bought 2 doz. jars 20¢. went to Leo’s got some grapes for wine, took peaches along & peeled & canned 4 qts.

Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1936

Ash. Lent beins, Berti has the mumps on 1 side this morning. Bernice brought the mail. Rennecker got 1 qt milk. Rose went up to Ahren’s, just to the house, Mrs. Ahrens was buried this afternoon, church & Stehfest cemetery. We didn’t get to lenten devotions Berti, has mumps. Rain this morning, colder tonite. Eggs – 23¢ today. Roads are terrible muddy at present, so many wagons & buggies passing these days.

Sunday, Jan. 5, 1936

We went to Waterloo church, & then went to Gus Geodelle’s to see Leona, she is very weak, gets nothing to eat, not much; we brought Floyd along with us to. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. Henry came to get crushing this afternoon. Wilbert Geodelle is having a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite, musci [sic] by Rythm [sic] Kings. John Kaltwasser is being buried this afternoon at Stehfests cemetery, from Belleville; Eugene Ahern of Waterloo will be buried Tues. morn.

Thursday, Sept. 19, 1935

John Lehrs of Belleville buried this afternoon Stehfest cemetery. Papa went down to see Hy. Armstutz about corn fodder, pap & Rosalia cut some this morning. Mrs. Alfred Crook daughter, the youngest & Miller boy being married this morning at Waterloo Church & wedding dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill to nite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to the dance, nice crowd, & pretty wedding bride all white with veil & 2 bridesmaids cousins, in light pink & blue; with head bands; best man in dark blue suits, her brother & his brother; she is 19 yrs. & him 21, nice couple. We trimmed up tin cans for flower pots.

Tuesday, Nov. 20, 1934

Rained a little, still south wind & warm. Bertie baked cookies, made chicken dinner. Henry & Leona went to Belleville, Billy stayed here; all they had dinner here. Mrs. Phily Kammler, nee Nancy Kutis) was buried yesterday afternoon. Stehfests Cemetery. It was in this evenings paper that Mr. & Mrs. Leo Watchel of Paderborn, have a 7½ lb. daughter born at there home Mon; yesterday. she was formerly Ruth Krehrer, that makes Mr. & Mrs. Pete Watchel of Smithon [sic] grand parents, first time. Beautiful evening.

Friday, Feb. 10, 1933

It is a year ago today that Mrs. Ed Neff died. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up all day for dinner & supper, she helped to quilt. Mr. John Hepp 75 yrs. old resident of Hecker, for a few months was buried this afternoon, with ceremony at the house & taken to Stehefest cemetery, the bell tolling as they left the house. Eggs are 9¢ in town today. Mr. Arthur S. Budde passed by here today, most probably he was out at the cemetery, the paper has a big piece about it, she shot herself while seating in a rocking chair in the parlor. Dr. Smith & Mr. Budde where the only one present at the inquest, it was private. It is snowing this evening. Mr. Barney Deken of Waterloo, died Feb. 6, aged 74 yrs., was buried Wed. morning; his wife nee Geodelle, her first husband was Henry Brueggman & he passed away just 25 yrs. ago on Feb. 6, same day as he died. Tiptown congreation [sic] is giving a euchre & pie social next Mon. evening. Mr. Alfred Kohler & Miss Margaret Wiersham where married at Harrisonville on Feb. 8, Wed. morning, the attendants where Armin Wierschem brother of bride & Anna Marie Parker cousins to groom, he is the son of Alvanna Kohler of Waterloo, just relatives attended. Mr. Henry Schrader was operated Tues. morning in East St. Louis. Mr. & Mrs. Albert Heyl & children & Mrs. Henry Fenere left for Alabama last Sat. to visits at the home of E. J. Brand, & Dr. Kessler, they arrived safely after covering 525 miles, a most pleasant trip.

Thursday, Dec. 3, 1931

Rosalia & Bertille went to Parkinson’s funeral. Odillo Eichenseer drove Jatho’s machine with the mourners. There where just the two daughters. It wasn’t a very large funeral. The priest went along out to the cemetery & buried him. The egg man paid 30¢ & took some saussage [sic] along with him. Joe Mueth of Belleville his home was raided, found, whiskey, beer, & wine. He is a cripple so they didn’t do much with him.

Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1931

Wash, iron & patch day. Wm. Parkinson died yesterday morning & will be buried Thurs. morn. to the Catholic church & Stehfest cemetery. Papa dug up the bathroom tiling & cleaned it out. A man was round selling vegatbles [sic] & oranges 17½¢ a doz.

Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1930

It is raining again this morning.  Chas. Rausch is getting buried this afternoon in the Old Hecker cemetery, rather Stehfest cemetery.  Rosalia & Bertille started a quilt today a flat iron little patches.  The rain stopped the people from sewing wheat now.  Mrs. Peter Watchel had a sick spell again last night, but it wasn’t so bad.  We found 33 eggs today.
