Rained this morn; stops threshing, for those that ain’t finished yet; still quite a few machines that ain’t done yet. Chris Buehler has sale this afternoon, Starr Auction, just called over lines, all around, had no poster printed, don’t come as high, just to call on lines, Red Bud, Waterlo & all over. Evansville has Catholic Church pinic [sic] today. We went to Buehlers sale, this afternoon pretty nice crowd. Leo & Rose came eve.

Saturday, Oct. 12, 1935

Mrs. J. Griffin died last night; at her home here; will be buried Mon. morning 9:30 o’clock mass to Waterloo cemetery. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped, we all went to Mrs. Euler estate sale, at Mueth’s residency, were she lived; Starr & Hartmann auctioneer; bought a few articles, things brought good prices & lot of it, canned goods, meat etc. quilts, bedding, all was sold. We all went to Pautler’s this evening; John Rist birthday dance, ladies free, gents 25. Moonlight Orc; large crowd, free dance at Donahues.

Saturday, March 24, 1934

Uncle Fred & Papa went down to Mr. Albert Gregson’s sale, didn’t get anything. Starr Auc. & Russel Gregson clerk, everything brought pretty fair price. Two fellows here from Wartburg, Dunn, bought our 3 heifers $57.50, going to get them Mon. morning; wanted to buy Jersey Bull from Henry also. We & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went out to Roberts birthday 8 yrs. old; the only ones present had cake. Brought Mr. Cleveland & Grover along out from Hecker, they got there machine in the Ed Neffs garage, broke the head, pouring hot water in while cold, & Emil froze his radiator up, the last cold spell. Oh, Boy!
