Monday, Feb. 8, 1937

Henry came after the boys, had breakfast here, they stayed all nite here. So warm this morn, & roads boy some mud, thawing out now; & rained heavy this morn. colder tonite. The healing doctor in E. St. Louis, Hyman was shot & killed, will be cremated Tues. at St. Louis, hear lot on radio about him now. Mr. Hy. Hinze & the lady that was keeping house there all along got married last week. Louis Birkner is pretty sick, don’t want no doctor & takes no medicine. Irene Buehler is also sick 5 days, don’t know what is wrong with her, has white spots on throat.

Friday, April 24, 1936

Pap went to Red Bud; to Wm. Vogt bought a sow 165 lbs. @ 12ยข – to have pigs in a week, he delivered here. Henry came, went to Belleville & got the rest, brought Floyd home, he looks pale, hand all tied up, have to bring him back next Thurs. Mrs. Pete Matzenbacher is in the hospital at St. Louis, for cancer.

Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1936

Berti ironed. Pap & Rose went out to do Henry’s feeding took the boys along; brought the bacon along & fried them down here; pap & Rose went out to do the feeding again tonite; brought the boys along, didn’t hear from Leona today. Pres. Roosevelt is going to speak over the radio from E. St. Louis Station tonite at 9:o clock. Heberers of Duqouin, & people from St. Louis isn’t back yet; they caught 3 fellows today & held them at E. St. Louis. We listened to the Pres. speech, there were 1,800 people present at D.C.

Monday, July 30, 1934

We washed, nice cool. Ronnenberg’s moving today. Mrs. Jake Staufenbiel nee Prediger of St. Louis died Fri. night, funeral Tues. morning. We all put in a free guess to how many strokes it would take to bust an inner tube yesterday. Berti guessed 1400. Henry came & papa went along, looking at horses. Wm. Probst, Nic Schaefer, at Ames, & etc., he had lunch here. Rose finished my dress today. The directors & Henry are to meet at the Blackburn’s school tonite- see about school.
