Monday, Nov. 8, 1937

Rained last nite, cloudy this morn. Ed Pabst had shooting match yesterday, also gave attendance prize. We cleaned hen house, etc. Burdgorgf looked at the sow, bought it for $8.50 lb; got it his eve. weighed 470 lbs; went to Hy. Hepps to get heifers also, he is going to move to Red Bud tomorrow. Pap went to Red Bud got the money & seen hog weighed. Rained today, showers. Eggs 28¢.

Thursday, April 30, 1936

Pap went Praire [sic] Du Rocher to McBride to get a sow. We baked doughnuts, Bert went along to Belleville with Henry & Leona, had to get Floyd’s hand redressed; looks terrible; they had dinner here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, lawned & planted cabbage & beans etc; went over to Minnie’s & got her dress finished 25¢ now. We planted 77 cabbage plants, & 87 sweet potatoes; this evening & tomatoes. Beautiful day, warm. Louis Armstutz’s have a big supper at there place tonite, Alumium [sic] cooking ware, there advertising, 2 men & lady from city are doing it, furnished everything; she had to ask 6 couples, Mr & Mrs Milton Wagner, Harry Kammler’s, Hugo Probsts, Lester Gregsons, Joe Wacthels, & themselves; supper to be at 7:30. Eggs 18¢.

Friday, April 24, 1936

Pap went to Red Bud; to Wm. Vogt bought a sow 165 lbs. @ 12¢ – to have pigs in a week, he delivered here. Henry came, went to Belleville & got the rest, brought Floyd home, he looks pale, hand all tied up, have to bring him back next Thurs. Mrs. Pete Matzenbacher is in the hospital at St. Louis, for cancer.

Saturday, February 1, 1936

Pap got crushing done, then went to Red Bud to see Burdgorf, but he wasn’t at home; he went to see Hartmann; Mr. J. Eshmann of Columbia, was here wanted to buy sow, also looked at the cow; Mr. Kunkelmann was here wanted to see dad. He went to Hellmers sale at Red Bud; bought 15¢, flower stand, bread board, sprinkle can; Mr. Faust was buried this afternoon at Red Bud, 8 cars passed by, wasn’t very large. Snowing tonite. Jimmie & Dick played at Stolbergs Lake tonite at Belleville.

Saturday, Nov. 30, 1935

Papa went to Jack Dugan’s & bought a sow for $25.00. got crushing done this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, he went up to the woods & got load rock. Ed. Meng was over awhile. Henry was here & got block & taggle, to butchered a beef soon. Horn’s funeral & in Waterloo & Dehn at Red Bud this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening & Rose & Berti went along to Oak Grove, Adm. 10¢, he paid it, Blossom City Orch; not much to it; one at Burksville also; at Waterloo.

Friday, Nov. 30, 1934

Henry Meng was over, looked at the sow, but said she would be to heavy for him, so papa & Rose took it to Belleville to Strecks, 515 lbs. @ $5.15. Mr. Eugene Bruns stopped in & papa paid him the lumber sawing, 480 ft. @ 95¢ – $4.55. Mr. Burckhordt of Red Bud, stopped, wanted to look at the fat hog, but she is sold.

Sunday, Feb. 5, 1933

Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morn, it was awful cold 10 above, it snowed last night, everything was white. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for dinner & then she helped us put the quilt in the frame, & marked some off. Henry was up this morn, & got our 3 pigs & is going to put them to his sow, what just had pigs, they are nice. We started the furnace again yesterday.

Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1931

We went to Waterloo this afternoon on business. Papa went over to see Ettling on the way back. Ed Pabst brought us a load of corn. John Braun brought his sow here again. Baked cookies this eve, after supper.

Monday, Dec. 14, 1931

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s butchering, they was there for lunch & dinner, he bought this sow for around 200 lbs. he got it from Pautler 5¢ lb. Eggs are 26¢

Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1930

We all went out to Henry’s butchering today.  Uncle Fred’s & Emil were all there helping, he butchered 1 sow – it weighed 275 lbs. dressed.  That was the first one this year.  It started snowing today, for a little while & cold 28 above zero.  Today Papa & Rosalia shoes came, they fit alright could have been better.  Last Sunday, Mr. & Mrs. August Voges celebrated their silver wedding down at Lords Corner.
