Monday, Sept. 11, 1939

Went to Belleville with things, sold 10 melon, 2 1/2 bu. potatoes & 3 pk. tomatoes, sold out but 3 melons small. Cool this morn; beautiful day. Bert [Bertille] planted flowers out. Henry came got yeast & to get boys from school. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] brought Marita down again tonite to stay for few days, had watermelon, from here they was called to come to Smithton.

Tuesday, Aug. 22, 1939

Went to Belleville, sold tomatoes, watermelon, eggs, potatoes, had Leo’s grapes along sold some. This afternoon, canned damson plums, grapes, cooked jelly. Went to Leo’s, put in order for 250 lbs. grapes for 2 people. Rained heavy again this eve; we got caught in it; up at Leo’s; rather on way going home. Sold Favres a 30 [cent] melon in Smithton. Rained nearly all nite. Eggs 18 [cents] Belleville.

Thursday, Aug. 10, 1939

Nice day. Went to Belleville, sold 4 bus. peaches potatoes apples tomatoes, pickles, eggs, summer sausage, sold everything. Leroy Haudrich have baby girl born this morning. Picked peaches sold bu. to Hy. Bruns; bu. to Joe Watchels, 1/2 bu. to Renneckers, pk. to Lauts; gave Hy. bu. some for canning & preserves.

Tuesday, June 27, 1939

Went to Belleville, 9 pks. potatoes @ 25 [cents] & 3 pks. for 15 [cents]. sold carrots 6 bunches @ 5. apples pk. 35 [cents]; summer sausage 4 lbs. @ 40 [cents], eggs 15 & 14 [cents] all sold out at 10 ‘ o clock; went good; we couldn’t sell no onions. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had been here.

Monday, July 18, 1938

Cloudy. We went to Red Bud to Ford Dealer & Chev. & there we got 1938 Chev. Coupe with heater & froster, 6 sets chains for $580 & old Chev. 1926 model $164.00. Black coupe pretty good trade. We canned 2 qts pickles & tomatoes; fixed garage for new car. Kleins got about 2 [cents] bu. for our onions & 50 [cents] bu. potatoes. last Thurs. at St. Louis. Bill [Klein] started working there today in store. Jac. Erle was here to Ins. [insure] car; also Ms. Becker, we insured with Becker for liability & property damage $16.65 yr. Henry & family came brought potatoes, quite a few bushels, & nice ones they got this year. Emil came over to look at the car; same as Uncle Fred’s.
