Some men around fixing stoves & etc. Pap went up town, butchering a hog by Eichenseer’s today for the wustmark [sic – Wurstmart] Mon, at the School Hall. It rained all day. Roy Neff was around taking orders for beef, they butchered one yesterday, pap went up this afternoon & got 50¢ roast 3 lbs; sell it at 18¢ & soup meat 16¢. Alps. Karban & Elmer Buss have a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite Moonlight Orch. Gents 25 ladies free; & rain all night, terrible.

Went to Red Bud; mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary dropped in a little while; after church; there going to have euchre in the school hall on Oct. 3. Joe Griffin & Tillie Hafley are to be married Tues. morn. 9 o clock mass here. The sisters are giving a shower Wed. evening in the school hall for Rosella Braun & Angela Eichenseer, Sodality’s invited, have to bring cake or sandwiches & present for each one; some shower. ha, – approaching marriages. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rose & Bert went along to Floraville homecoming, such a crowd, all afternoon, the chicken was all gone early; lot people from the city; 7 quilts were raffled for 10¢. So many cars went by today, the Mission Rally is held at Ruma this afternoon, 2 o’clock, 2 sisters are departing for China Mission fields.

Uncle Fred came brought Aunt Mary up for the Ladies Convention to be held at the School Hall, with dinner 50¢ a plate & program this afternoon. Uncle Fred & papa went out to Henry’s sawed wood this afternoon. Rose & Berti went to the Dentist, Rose got 1 pulled & 1 filled Berti got 1 filled. Richert of Dupo was here this morning, engaged 2 hogs for 2 weeks & bought 2 pigs from Henry $2.00 a p. [a piece]. Mr. Edgar Wittenauer & Miss Alsace Eckert are giving a free birthday dance in Kammlers Hall tonite; rang over lines, everybody invited. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here, there were so many ladies at the hall today, over 200, for dinner was served, chicken, dressing, peas, turnips, mashed potatoes, cake, cranberries on lettuce & ice cream, ice water & coffee; a big day was had; a quilt was raffled to a Lenzburg lady. We all went to the dance, nice crowd, Koehler’s Orch, in which Edgar plays drums. Rather cold again, froze ice last few nights.

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came had dinner & supper here, Frank Dudenhoefer came her too told us that they were asked to come out to Manier’s for chicken supper, 5 families were out; he said we should come Wed. or next Sun. Mr. John Dehn was taken to Belleville hospital, operated for appendix and is pretty bad, no visitors allowed; he is 61 yrs. of age. Mr. R. D. Butler of Burksville is in Red Bud hospital, poor condition. We went to Pautler’s to a free for all dance, cowboys of Rythmn [sic], had a wonderful time. There was 260 CC camps boy’s at the Waterloo camps & about half where at the dance, some bunch, they already have some sent back & 6 in jail this morning for stealing. Aunt Mary went to church & meeting this afternoon in School hall.

We washed. Hy. Meng came ordered 2 hogs for tomorrow. Louis Dehns & Steve got there this morning 216 lbs. George Wagner came & paid for his 351 lbs @ $3.45, they came down again. We [gave] George our price [sic – prize] for the euchre tonite, a glass plate, he take it down to Bill Fritsche who is on the prize committee. Firemen’s Euchre tonite, in School Hall; also pinochle, lotto, Adm. 25¢, attendant prize. 25 lb. sack flour, was won by Elmer Kammler. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon. Uncle went to Red Bud. Papa went to Wagner’s helped sugar cure meat. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening, then we all went to the euchre. Bertille had 9 points, got art linen table cloth. Aunt Mary 9, got deck cards, the rest of the folks, didn’t get no prize; an awful large crowd, all the table filled; & nice prices [sic]. People from neighboring cities. George Wagner & Steve Rennecker, signed the paper for pap process for tax.

We butched [sic] 2 hogs, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & lunch, dinner & supper, Henry helped too was here for lunch & dinner; took some soup bones, sausage along home. Leona wasn’t feeling so well; we made summer sausage, 10 lbs. beef. Mildred Wacthel brought the 25¢ what she owed on beef. Chas. Heff, stopped in to get beef last we had 6 lbs. George Wagner came & engaged a hog to kill maybe on Sun. They are working steady on the road, 8 hrs. work, 50¢ hr; so he has to butcher on Sun. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here this evening, we all went to the euchre given by Altar Sodality in the School hall, Bertille the highest one of us had 8 points, got box, perfume, bath salts, powder, Aunt Mary had 7, got box letter writing paper, not enough prices [sic – prizes], 4 out of seven points got prizes; pretty good crowd, 23 tables. Fr. Aydt, got first prize 12 points, got magzine [sic] stand. The surprize attendance prize was won by Ethel Parker, $1 bill. Joe Wacthel was here looked at the hogs; he wants one to butcher tomorrow.

George Wagner came, payed [sic] for his hog $3.80 lb. Hy Meng got one to & butchered today. The Moonlighters played at a dance at Foster Pond last nite, wedding of Simon Matthews 19 & Agnes Scheinder 19 & to best, where Chas. Shilling & Mary Matthews. Tonite they played at Pautler’s park; Gents 25 ladies free. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stoped [sic] in, on there way to Red Bud, moving Christ Buehler & family down there, all the Birkners is helped. Frank Buehler moved into a different place down there. Miss Josie Keller was here for supper, she brought us each a dress goods, & quilt patterns. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then we went to the free show in school hall. Rheinhardt from Belleville & Scout Boy’s; all free. When we left Josie got flat tire. Braun’s kids fixed it for her. Ed Pabst brought load corn.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stoped [sic] awhile. George Wagner came to see if he could get a hog, for butchering tomorrow. A lady called to get eggs but they got some at Renneckers, ours to high I guess. 27¢ in the store here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then Rosalia & Bertie went along to the play, in the School Hall given, by the Dramatic Club; name is the “18 Carat Boob.” players; are Elvira Braun, Pearl Griffin, Anna Marie Parker, Wilfred Eichenseer, Albert Coop, Agnes Parker, Elfreida Wittenauer, Joe Griffin, Edgar Wittenauer, Raymond Wittenauer, Angela Eichenseer, Lee Gregson. The hall was packed. Auchbon’s band of Red Bud, furnished musci [sic], & also tap dancing.

It froze ice last night, even in chicken house. Tonite the St. Augustine’s parish have lotto game. Henry came up yesterday evening, brought the beef along what he had left from selling at Waterloo we took 14 lbs. he sold it at 12 & 14¢; couldn’t sell none here in town, because George Lorberg went around, sold it at 8 & 10¢; Henry sold $26 & still had the hind quarter left. Papa & Rosalia took load wheat to Red Bud. 80¢. Papa & Rosalia went out in the country, pap went in woods, Rose helped Leona fried down beef. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came there & got beef. Ed Neff was here got chicken corp box. Len Mertz & wife formerly Hilda Wilhelm, school teacher, moved into the Gambach property, & will start store, buy poultry & eggs, & sell products of all kinds. Mrs. Gambach moved up stairs, they have two rooms down stairs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came took Rosalia & Berti along to the lotto game in the school hall. Aunt Mary got dresser oil cloth scarf, she got 1 points, 3 of them had 5 points, some 4 & 2 – rest 1; 25 games were played. Then they had a cake walk, had 19 cakes, auction 14 cakes out, the others brought $1 apiece. Large crowd.

We washed, papa is fixing corn crib. Ralph Ettling was here last Sat., & papa was there Sun, he bought 3 heifers from him for $36.00. Ettling & his family are going to move to St. Louis, in 3 weeks; going to give his horses to Paul Neff to work, cows to Stoval & hogs to Mo. Rosalia & Bertille went to Mamies, then we all went to the school hall to a dairy show & speaking given by St. Louis Dairy, had Ed Parkers barn pictured. The hallways just crowded, people from Red Bud, Smithon [sic] & all over. Mr. Taylor, & Dr. McCullen where speakers; inspector of milk of health department. Kenneth Kemps birthday, & a bunch went out to celebrate with dance & beer.
