Papa went to Waterloo, & to Johanning’s sale by Burksville. Berti send her letters off to 5 people; & a dime to Mrs. Wilson Griffith of St. Louis. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up; got a letter from Seyler & had it cashed. Geo. Wagner’s family also came. Leona brought the boy’s up they stayed all nite. Hecker road commissioner, gave his dance at Country Club tonite, free dance & beer. Art Geodelle had birthday dance at Pautler’s, Geodell’s band played; then they all went out to Heinken’s, played for him. Papa got Chas. Helfrich’s relief check for $16.00 from relief ass. for feed.

Tuesday, April 2, 1935

Ironed, painted screens, etc. Henry & family came this evening, she tried her coat on at Staufenbiel’s again, it ain’t finished yet. Today is election of road commissioners, G. Lorberg won with 201 votes, Pabst 19, Roever 40 Wittenauer 52. for clerk Cowell elected with 149 & Kiefer 142 votes.

Wednesday, April 6, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are planting potatoes up here today. Papa is setting posts. Uncle Fred got our mule to work his patch up for corn. Catherine Perry from St. Louis got married yesterday. We got a letter from the Ill. State Auto Ass. the cards, & stickers for the car. Jo. Huber, & Walter Heyl where relected [sic] for road commisioner [sic] & clerk. against Geo. Lohrberg & Albert Thompsons for Poll 1 Monroe Co. & Melching the way we heard for the Blackjack & out that way.

 

Thursday, March 31, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed in Hecker all night last, & part today. She went to church this morning high mass, Fr. Jubillee 20th. there where 3 strange priests. Adam Braun & Melching where here electioneering him & Joe Brauch running for road commissioner. Papa went out to help Henry sow oats, there for dinner. We made quite a lot of garden, but is rather cold, eggs are still 9ยข. The School children are having a free play tonite, all free. We had lettuce for supper, it is good.
