Canned qt. tomatoes. Pap went to town order laying mash & hog feed brought it down this morn. Received letter from Dupo stating who won there prizes, all of St. Louis, except 1 at Dupo & Highland 2 at Belleville; anyway not us. The wedding pictures of Papenberg & Schmierbach & Armstutz’s are all in paper, all pretty good. John Braun was here; going around trying to get signers for leasing land for oil, quite a few around here have signed up. Pap took 19 bus. wheat to Waterloo got 93¢. top is 95¢. Bert stayed at Henry’s. Seen in paper that Emil Brand gave the Times Editor a paper from 35 yrs. ago; they published the news, some of the items from that paper.

Saturday, Aug. 31, 1935

Tom & Simon Havey, were here to get papa to sign petition to get all weather roads through the blackjacks; all the land owners have to sign; they did have the farmers to sign, but now it has to be owners. Rain a little this morning, light sprinkle. We went to Belleville. Rose got new shoes $2.05 black. Awful cool nights.

Thursday, March 7, 1933

Henry & family came up this morning, had lunch & dinner here. Papa, Rosalia, Henry went to East St. Louis to get little chicks, 400 chicks from, Illmo Poultry Farm at $4.55 – 100, all white Rocks, nice. George Wagner was here to get signers for Mr. Hill so he can be now – high school director. Our telephone is on the bum, papa went over to Renneckers to talk. We got new batteries & put them in today & everything is in No P condition, our old ones where all together dead.

Monday, Aug. 15, 1932

Our Chev, had a flat tie so we took Uncle Fred’s machine to church & came to late. It rained this morning. Rosalia & Bertille went along to Belleville with Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, she got a new dress. Mr. Hill was here getting signers for a petition that the post office stays in Hecker. There was a man around selling watermellons [sic] 3.5 lbs. for 25¢, he said they sold 65 at Red Bud. There was a guy here selling maytags.

Mr. Hill was here, he wanted papa to sign a petition for Rob. L. Kern so that that he could attend the convention, papa signed, he has to have 25 then he sends the paper back again.
