Penetcost [sic]. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Leo & family & Bill [Klein] came this afternoon had supper. Totsch’s have fish fry & dance tonite. Hecker Public School kids had there pinic [sic] at Fort Chartres today, rained a little this afternoon.

Pentecost. Went to mass. Henry & family & Leo & Rose were here for dinner & supper; & Uncle Fred & A. Mary came this afternoon for supper, we took pictures over across the street by A. Mary’s. bridal wreath bush, that is blooming so nice. There is a concert in the Evangical [sic] church tonite, Lipperts children is in the band. Carl Armbruster of Smithton is again in Belleville hospital, had motorcycle accident Sat. nite on Waterloo road; broke his leg. Staheleber was also riding with his motorcycle but was farther ahead when it happened ran into truck or something.

Penetcost [sic]. We went to Red Bud, first mass, 5 boys were enrolled in to the Sodality. Henry & family were here for dinner supper. This afternoon we went along with him to New Athens & Marrisa, about 3 miles south from there we went & looked at a team 3 yr. old mares; drove them around in the wagon, pretty nice, so he bought them $100 a piece; from Edmond Hodges; came home; got Chris Buehler to get them, Hy went along & got them this evening yet; $4.50 to hauled them down; we went out to Henry’s helped with work; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came out then to see them. The Hecker priest Fr. Aydt has a bid day, he is 5 yrs. priest, 4 priests had the mass & Fr. Aydt made the sermon; choir from Belleville. The baseball team is playing at New Hanover today.

Monday, May 16, 1932

Pentecost Mon, pinic [sic] at Red Bud. It started in raining this morn, so we planted tomato & cabbage plant out, have to water them every night. We washed & ironed; Papa went out on business trip this afternoon. Mr. Quathhammer & son where here & look at the colts. The egg man came he wanted to buy chickens, so he is coming back tomorrow morning again, to get them eggs are still 9¢.
