Went to first mass recived [sic] palms. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to New Hanover to see about Wyandott eggs from Kettler, ordered them for next Mon; also stopped at the oil well on Gumersheimer farm working fast; lot people there.

Went to first mass, received palms. Enrolled 13 new members to Holy Name Society, now have 39 so far; church lasted from 7:30 till 9:30. Went out to Uncle Freds for dinner & supper, Henry & family & Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were all there. Nice day, warm, & windy.

Sunday, March 21, 1937

Palm [Sunday]. We went to first mass. Mrs. Gennin of Red Bud died will be buried tomorrow morn. mass at Red Bud, remains to St. Peter & Paul’s cemetery at St. Louis. Chester Cowell’s mother in law. So many people dying of Red Bud parish; here lately. Henry & family came, we went along with them to Leo & Rosalia’s had dinner & supper there. Sure beautiful day, little warmer. Spring to begin today. Last Fri. nite when raining so hard was an auto accident at Parrots corner, Voges beer trucker driver of Red Bud was killed instantly & Grueber man with him had 2 legs broken & all bruised, truck was stoped [sic] on hard road, rained so heavy, stoped [sic] the truck & they had no lights.

Mr. & Mrs. Emil Schilling of St. Louis stopped in, going home from Geo. Schillings, see how we all were & left me 2 pictures of Omer, that he had taken when Martha got married; they are going to move in about 2 weeks are so, to Northton Ave; not far from Unioun [sic] Ave. he said.

Raining this morn, thunder & lighten. Palm Sun. Levi Ganley came & paid for his two loads hay $18.00. We spayed our baby chixs, 2 died. In the Evangicle [sic] churches the children are being examined this morn. next Sun. confirmation. Mr. Al. May & daughter Margaret of Burksville, stopped in a while. Mr. Joe Freund &  Clifford Stalheber came at 9’oclock this evening, to look at the mare & colt he was down at Brauns, also looking for one; pretty late, he wants pap to look at his cow, he wants to trade in for the mare, thought the colt was nice.

Today it is a little warmer, Palm Sun. The Evangical [sic] churches have confirmation today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this morning, went home & came back this afternoon, for services, had supper here. A guy from Foster Pond was here & bought our drill for $10.00 cash. Dominic & Alois Roth was here, looked at our horses & colt. We went up to Reifsceinder’s farm by Belleville looked at his hiefers [sic], has 2 nice ones there, then we went in there to see him & bought the 2 delivered for $28.00. When we came home Henry & family came they had been here, went out to Aunt Mary’s awhile, & came back here again.

Sunday, March 25, 1934

Went to Red Bud church. Henry Birkner’s little girl is a yr. old today, but can’t walk, & stand very much. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up late mass, receive palms. Had dinner here. Uncle Fred & papa drove back to Hemp’s at St. Joe on business. We went over to George Wagner’s a little while to see Clara, she is in bed with bad cold. This evening we went down to Ruma to John Myerscouph’s, gave them a visit, played cards, looked at pictures. Oh Boy! did it rain, just poured down when we came home; about 11:30.

Sunday, March 29, 1931

Today we received the palms.  They were all up for every mass this morning.  Henry & family & we all ate lunch, they we left for St. Louis.  We stopped in East St. Louis & spoke with Mr. Caldwell.  Then drove on over to the bridge, we ate dinner first then we went to Sigmund Dudenhoeffer’s, there we had lunch.  Jac. Bachle was there & George came too.  He is a Aviator now.  Papa, Henry & Jac. went to over to see Val. Adam, but he was working in the Pretzel factory.  We came home by Waterloo, & then helped Henry do his work first, then came on home.  Bobby was at Aunt Mary’s all day.  This evening they all was up for church & after church we had supper.  Philip Freund was here too.

Today is Palm Sunday.  Bertille went to get palms.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry & family were here for dinner today.  This afternoon Papa went over by Steve Rheinecker for a little while.  In the evening Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, Aunt Mary went to church.  We found 26 eggs.
