We baked cherry pie; Leslie Siebert & Alivera Jatho are to wed this afternoon in Smithon [sic] by Rev. Hasto at 2:30, she is to wear pink silk & blue sash ribbon, the attendant will be, her sister & husband, of St. Louis. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & we went to Bill Curran’s sale back by Tiptown. Boy! believe me it sure was some sale, 2 mules brought $405. mare & colt, $175.00 everything so high priced. 15 mon. credit, Alfred May was auctioner [sic], Vincent Walsh clerk. Curran got the job to be motor cop on Route 3, they will move to Waterloo now. Authur [sic- Arthur] Fisher is to move there. Lucille McCarthy told us today that Hoffman & Elvira Bozzay of Tiptown will get married Tues. June 6, at 3 o clock in the parsonage, & shower was given to Isabella Kalmer; Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker where over this evening, she was saying that Reuben Kammler got married today, he goes to Carbondale School, & married one from there, it must of been surprised, because Wagner’s wasn’t there.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner. Aunt Mary & Bert went to church this afternoon, Ed Moffitts where there to they where visiting Frank Kroll’s. Mr. Metzger & son from Floraville where here & bought one of four mules $65.00, he made a note on it, & will pay as soon as he gets his cash out of the banks when they open up.
Thursday, Feb. 2, 1933
Rosalia & Bertille went to church, candlemas day. Louis Rechfsichner & Colton of Belleville was here, they looked at our mules. Papa went out to Henry’s this afternoon. The ground hog will see his shadow, so I guess that means bad weather. Cyril Eichenseer was here he wanted to see if we had chickens to set, he wanted some. Wilfred came & wanted alfalfa hay. There was a girl here selling soap 10¢ bar, we bought one, she was a cripple & said had no dinner. We got 9½¢ for eggs, store pays 9¢. Cyril said Mr. Laut & Mr. Hepp are getting along pretty good here in town, but Joe Mueth died last night. Papa took the fence out at Henry’s along the road & brought a gal 1 milk along home. We went up to Mueth’s to the wake, he looks natural; we didn’t stay very long, there were so many people there, hardly standing room, anymore. We stopped at Henry’s awhile when we came back. Mrs. Cleveland & Grover stayed there & Albert & Henry went to Mueth’s. They sure got trouble again at Blackburn University.

Papa & Rosalia went out Henry’s to get the mules. We washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in a few minutes, they where down at Joe Gregson’s got some pullets 9¢ lb 7 she gave us some rose bushes to plant out. They rang over the lines this evening for a political meeting to be held at Kirsch School tomorrow nite, with free warm lunch, & for a euchre in Kammler’s Hall Wed. nite Adm. 25¢.
