Hy. Armstutz came got 18 chickens, sold them to Mertz here, didn’t ship them this time was enough no coop full. Went to Belleville this morn; dentist wasn’t there gone on vacation. Raining this afternoon, real nice, heavy showers. Went to church pinic [sic] this eve; didn’t win nothing. J. [Josie] Keller was out to; lots city people & many priests, large crowd. Evansville band played. Leo & Rose were down to Fr. Orlet & Raternaun. J. Klinkhardt got $20.00. Zeno Birkner $2. crochet bedspread Grover Dashner, Mrs. Chas. Heff $2. quilt Levi Ganley, quilt Levi Gregson, that I know.

Monday, July 5, 1937

Washed, ironed; canned 5 qts. apples. We went to Leo’s this afternoon helped them pick apples & can them, iron, had supper. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & J. [Josie] Keller also helped. Hy. Armstutz brought sack feed down.

Sunday, July 4, 1937

Went to mass, new pastor Fr. Spors, about 45 pretty nice man. Leo & Rose came down for dinner brought truck back. This afternoon Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & J. [Josie] Keller came, all had supper here, went fishing this afternoon had fish fry, sure good. Bert [Bertille] went along home with Leo & went to free dance at Totsch at Paderborn, Skaers playing; Boy was this town hot on firecrackers, & what a noise, 3 days. We had nice rain this afternoon.

Tuesday, June 29, 1937

Worked in garden; went up seen Fr. Aydt; masses said for Uncle Adam; Uncle Fred is working up here again this morn. Rained a little this afternoon. Edwin Reheis looked at the hay. To see if it would be dry enough by tomorrow. Went out to Uncle Adams; so many people there, in & out. Ed came this afternoon by train; Carrie is coming in about 10 days; were he works they send a big bouquet flowers; & children bought 1, has quite few mass cards. Josie Keller & Ella Miller were also out; Mr. & Mrs. Jac Schmidt.

Sunday, May 9, 1937

Mothers Day. Went to Red Bud mass. We received a 2 books chances yesterday from Dupo, 1st prize $700.00 & 2nd. $300.00, pinic [sic] on May 31; we get them every year. Went out to A. [Aunt] Mary’s for dinner Josie Keller was out & this afternoon all went to Leo’s had supper there. Leo & Rose came down to milk station this morn, put in complain about getting there milk back all the time; they brought some sour milk along here to make cheese with. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up this eve.; we went to the firemens dance at Manier’s Hall nice crowd, Skaer’s played; cleared $40. at the door. Adm. 25¢.

Thursday, April 1, 1937

Cooked kettle soap, sprayed fruit trees & brooder house. Raining April showers; went out to Uncle Fred’s, for dinner & supper. Josie Keller cam also, we played cards this afternoon, came up here this eve; awhile, she also went to see Liz Boll & the Nuns Sisters; went home at 8:30. Eggs 21¢.

Friday, Feb. 12, 1937

Lincoln’s Birthday, also send J. Kellers birthday greeting for tomorrow. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, baked bread here. Fred went to L. Birkners, she stayed had dinner here, then went up this afternoon, he is pretty low & didn’t think he would pull through today any [unclear] talks so much, high fever. Uncle Fred came down for supper, went back again, then came again at 1:30 went to bed here, had breakfast then went up again.

Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1937

Lent. We went to church, received the ashes. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we went out to Henry’s, went along to St. Louis to Zeiheim [sic – Ziegenhein] funeral chapel to Frank Dudenhoefer funeral, all nephews pallbearers, has some beautiful bouquets, about 21 or 25, some nice ones. We went to J. Kellers for dinner at 1 o’clock, then went to the chapel again, met all Dudenhoefers & all, funeral was at 3 p.m. we didn’t go out to the cemetery, to far, got home here about 5:15, we got to St. Louis at 11:30 this morn; had nice drive, met Winnie Ganley. Jake & wife & Walter & wife were also over. Mrs. Wolf, that is Mrs. Jatho mother, was buried from Belleville to Village Cemetery here, this afternoon; lot of people sick & dying.

Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1937

St. Blase Day. We went to Red Bud had our throats blessed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were also up, for that, stayed awhile. Houbaum of Wartburg & nephew came & got the sow & 5 pigs $35.00 & Ralant Laut got hay 25¢. Bert got letter from J. Kellers she left some boxes at Ella Miller’s at Belleville for Rose, she should call for them there.

Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1937

Leo Orlet & Rose wedding day; had Lizzie Boll & Aunt Mary & Leona helped cook; married at St. Mary’s at 9 o’clock, Isd. & Bert best; lot of people at church, we had breakfast at Fr. Orlets; & took pictures at Ruine, & put news in News Democrat; had Fr. out for dinner & all brothers & sisters, god mothers & fathers; Jos. Keller all for dinner & supper about 40 persons; took pictures here in afternoon. Dance at Paulter tonite musci [sic] by Skaers, etc. & what a crowd, & presents, got 3 sets of dishes 2 knives & forks, blankets, quilts, tea kettle & every so many more; Rained this morning & cloudy all day; foggy. We had Alois Roth’s car, & he took Leo, chaeuffer [sic] for Mr. & Mrs. Orlet & Mr. & Mrs. Roth.
