Thanksgiving Day. Bert [Bertille] went up to church for awhile to Wedding mass of Oliver Qurin’s & Edith Klinkchardt, all white dress with train & long veil. Grohmans flower girl; & Viola Qurin, blue dress & Dorthy Klinkhardt rust colored dress, long acted as bridesmaids & Quintian Klinkhardt, 2 brother & Eugene Neff friend as best man. Bert [Bertille] went to wedding dance at Kammler’s, large crowd & received many presents, Schoenborn Och; served sandwiches & cake. We went to 10 o clock mass at Red Bud, 75 Diamond Jubiliee, Bishop was met here in Hecker. 32 priests had dinner there 3 turkeys. Went to Paderborn this afternoon to see Connor’s & F. Schilling. Sure beautiful weather these days, nice warm.

Monday, Jan. 18, 1937

Henry & family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were all here for dinner, helping us, clean 2 ducks, & baked 7 cakes & 10 pie crusts, cleaned basement etc. A fellow around selling pencils 2 for 5ยข. Rosalia got a letter from Fr. Stern, congratulations & God’s blessing, for a happy wedded life. Beautiful day. Pap & Henry & Uncle Fred all went to Kammler’s Hall for a Farm Bureau & Benifit [sic] meeting, the hall was to cold & saloon not big enough, lot of farmers present, reelected new members, Ruhel – & President etc. Got the chev. license No. 655 – 890. Sure lot of people down with flu.

Much colder today, we went to mass. The Y.P.L. have a play & dance at Kammler’s hall tonite. Welcome Home Town Visitor, it was real pretty; players were Julius & Marjorie Rausch, Roland, Lyle & Veronica Rausch, Harold Wagner, Lee Howery, Als. Eckert.

Sunday, June 14, 1936

Beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, awhile before mass. Mrs. Emma Eckert brought the veil back, had it borrowed for Emmie Solemn Coummioun [sic – Communion]. We went to Red Bud for 7:30 mass, but it is changed now to 6:30 & 8:30 masses, so we came to late, so stayed for high mass & benediction. The Evangical [sic] Church Ladies Aid got cold supper & pinic [sic] today, at church grounds. The Hecker Baseball Club has a dance at Kammler’s Hall musci [sic] by Schmidts. We went to pinic [sic] awhile. Pap went for supper, also Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary. Birkner’s Orch. played musci [sic]. Mrs. Milton Wagner won the free game of bluey, & also the quilt in lotto, & Mrs. Frieda Koreber won 1 quilt in bluey & 1 that was raffled out; sure luck. Edgar Wittenauer was stabbed with a knife last nite by Maniers, isn’t so bad; fellow from Athens; sheriff came out & took him to Waterloo Jail.

Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1935

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, got there liver sausage & kettle grease; had lunch, we washed, ironed, rendered lard got 3 gals. Papa went in woods. The Y.P.L. has a euchre & dance in Kammler’s Hall tonite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then Ros & Bert went along up to the euchre. Uncle was the lucky one, he got prize, a flower vase, had 7 points, we had 6, played 12 games; then danced but Moonlight Orch; the prizes weren’t so nice, pretty nice crowd; Mrs. Milton Wagner won attendance prize. There is also euchre & dance at Paderborn.

Went to Red Bud. Mr. Davis & man of Belleville were here looked at the colt. George Wagners family were here this afternoon & evening. Merrimac played Hecker here & won, 2 games lost for Hecker. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry & family all came this evening, to take in the music at Kammler’s Hall, baseball club gave a dance, Radio Stars Jimmy Dickie playing $20.00, we & Henry & Leona went in & Boy what a crowd & good time, Oh Boy! They sure are good.

Monday, Nov. 5, 1934

Bertille’s birthday 20 yr. anniversary. Cleaned furnace, baked. Rosalia sewed dress. The dance given in Kammler’s Hall last night by The Pals of Harmony was nothing no crowd. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family & Mr. & Mrs. Dan Geodelle & family were here this evening, played cards.

Monday, Sept. 24, 1934

Papa & Rosalia went back to Straub’s to get the heifer. There is going to be a Democrat Rally at Kammler’s Hall tonight, Judge Riess principal speaker. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family came, all went, papa took care of the kids, stayed here. All the Monroe Co. candidates, were present, Judge Riess, Urban Heyl, Brand’s, Schaefer speakers, free beer was held; after the meeting. We planted our flowers. Mrs. Rennecker came got a dress pattern. We canned 6 qts pears.

Saturday, Aug. 25, 1934

Farm Bureau Pinic [sic] at Maniers Park today, we went up after dinner, speaking, games, & musci [sic], dancing were the most, that is was. Erma Happ was awarded blue ribbon, health girl, she was 3 at Springfield. This evening we went up for dance ladies free, Moonlighters playing, & fair crowd. Mr. Eugene Bruns 31 & Adelia Weber 21 were married this afternoon, Ralph Wiegand & Luella Bruns attendants, she was all white with veil; they had an invitation wedding dance in Kammler Hall, musci [sic] from E. St. Louis & what a crowd; not so very many from around here; were there.

The Sunday School children & parents have basket pinic [sic] at school grounds today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped awhile, then we went out to the cemetery, see Mr. Scheinder, went over to Uncle Freds for dinner. It started to rain, we went home. Mr. Edler came there to see him. Clarence Weigand has a barn dance tonite, 70×30 floor, Rheinhardts musci [sic]. Uncle Adam & Emil stop on there way home, to see if we was going to work at the barn tomorrow; he told us that someone drove over Bert Thompsons heifer on the road, knock it over, but it got up again, but weak; the car didn’t stop; he also told us of a politician meeting in Kammler’s Hall last nite, keg beer treated we knew nothing about it.
