Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile. Today is Homecoming in Smithon [sic], so many cars went by getting sisters. Hy. Ronnerberg’s gave a dance last night, Mrs. birthday celebration. Chas. Helfrichs have a party to nite, Loretta & Cornelius birthday; we have an invitation. Hecker bear cats playing Meyers Barbecu [sic – barbeque] today, & Wittenauer lost the game score 15 to 12 in favor of Meyers.

Saturday, July 1, 1933

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up took the rest of there onions out in there garden; we helped, they sold them to Braun’s got 94¢ for 51½ lbs. New Athens have home coming today. There was a fire at Kaltwasser’s today, Spalts are threshing at Wacthel & Armstutz set there & spark flew out & started the weeds to burn, they got it out with shovels & water, Joe Wacthel got his hand burned a little. It is so awful hot again. John Reagean & family moved in John Hepps house here in town.

Sunday, Sept. 18, 1932

We went over to Aunt Mary’s for chicken dinner. Mr. Hill came in the afternoon awhile, & put on some lectures. We had cake. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie awhile, Mrs. Eichenseer’s sister Mrs. Erle & her daughter where also there, we had lunch there. This evening we drove out to Uncle Adam’s & Emil & visited them awhile. Today is Homecoming at Floraville. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary talked about going. Mamie weighed us today Rosalia 173½ lb. Mamie 137 Miss Erle 137 & Bertille 131.

Sunday, Sept. 4, 1932

We all went out to Uncle Fred’s had chicken dinner, then got ready & went to Waterloo to see the parade & pinic [sic], it was good, & this evening we went out to Geo. Fruend’s, they had a little boy, celebrating Creses birthday, had supper there. It was a nice day.

Saturday, Sept. 3, 1932

Papa got crushing done. Mrs. Osie Neff is pretty bad sick the way they say. We had spring chicken dinner. This evening the Waterloo & Millstadt Homecoming, begin; with a dance, & band concert, & carnivals. It is cloudy & gloomy this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where all up this evening, eating cake, watermellons [sic] & beer, celebrating Rosalia’s birthday. 21 yrs. old.

Sunday, Aug. 7, 1932

We went to Red Bud took Mrs. Staufenbiel along down. Today is Smithon’s [sic] Home coming nice cool, little cloudy. Mr. Eschman & Mrs. Beethold was here, he looked at our pigs, she is building a new house in Waterloo. We went down to Red Bud this evening church. Geo. Lorberg was selling watermellons [sic], & muschmellons [sic] this afternoon here in town, he gave some to Geo. Wagner’s. Mr. Cox, egg man from St. Louis, came this morning got our eggs 15¢ doz. 20 doz.

Sunday, Sept. 20, 1931

We all went to Red Bud church.  The Hecker Priest read Ignatz Neff name off this morning, he signed the paper at Belleville, this week his kids can come back to school if they want too.  Osie Neff was here looking for Uncle Fred.  Today is homecoming at Floraville.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here & then about 4:30 left for the picnic.  Joe Hibbert the carpenter & his brother Frank & a cousin was here for a short visit.  He was visiting Hecker friends this afternoon.  This evening we drove out to Henry’s took them along & went to the basement floor dance at George Freund’s.  Adm. 30¢ as enter.  Rheinhardt & Skaer furnished musci [sic], 3 pieces.  Papa was up at the store awhile & he also stopped at George Wagner’s, she said that her sister Lorenia Merhmann & Orlindo Skaer are getting married next Sat. Sept 26 at Floraville.

Sunday, August 16, 1931

Papa went to Smithon [sic] church this morn.  We had dinner & lunch at Uncle Fred’s here today.  Today is Robert Gregson’s first year birthday & is also Lena Mengs.  The way we heard Edgar Voges & Elva Jatho are being married at Floraville 2 o clock this afternoon & a big dance to night.  Gambach car was on fire & tires all 4 a hole cut in at 4 o’clock this morning.  Mildred was at the Freeburg home-coming, & this morn. Mrs. smelled rags burning, they looked & found the front seat of the car burning & tires all flat, but they don’t know how it happened or who did it or anything.  There was a car load of people here from New Athens they wanted to know where Ed Foster lives on the Hirst place we told them, there is a basket picnic there today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to see Henry Birkner’s, little baby boy born Aug. 7, 12 lbs. they called it Glen Clem, Mrs. Louise Birkner & Clem Parker where sponsors.  Christ Buehler’s called there little girl Iona Applonia, Oscar Birkner & wife where sponsors.  There was people here from E. St. Louis & bought 5½ lbs. springs for 24¢.  Rosalia & Bertille went to church this evening, not very many there.

Saturday, July 4, 1931

Today the machines go, there is Homecoming at New Athens, & Circus at Belleville.  Papa went down to see Ed. Pabst’s, this morning to see the crops there.  He bought 12 tiling from the town for 60¢.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, we all had lunch there & this evening we sat on there porch, watching fireworks at New Athen’s & at George Wagner’s.  We had music & singing.  Joe Schilling finished threshing today & pulled out in the prariere [sic-prairie] are up by Paderborn.  He threshed 2214 bus, with oats & wheat.

Sunday, August 10, 1930

Today is Smithton home-coming.  It looks like rain this morning.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona & the kids were all here for dinner today.  After dinner we all went up to Smithton to see the parade.  It was sure nice.  We went home about 5:30.  They had such a big crowd there.  I guess in the evening it was worse yet.  It was nice & cool today.  They had a mule there that did all kinds of stunts.  This evening Steve Rennecker came over a little while & talked with us and also Nicci Rausch was here a little while.
