Went to first mass, received palms. Enrolled 13 new members to Holy Name Society, now have 39 so far; church lasted from 7:30 till 9:30. Went out to Uncle Freds for dinner & supper, Henry & family & Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were all there. Nice day, warm, & windy.

Monday, April 4, 1938

Washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up this afternoon, Bert [Bertille] helped them plant onions. Eggs 14 [cents] yet. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along up to Griffins to see Tillie, she looks natural, dressed in her wedding dress, & so many flowers; & mass cards she has; the Altar Sodality & Holy Name Society recited the rosary this eve; so many people there. Henry came got the truck to haul calf of [sic] tomorrow.

Thursday, Jan. 27, 1938

Not so cold today; tonite is to be 18. The Belleville Savings bank of East M. St. was closed this morn; $1,000.00 shortage the cashier Wueller [unclear]. Mrs. Porter the first lady in Ill. to be electrocuted is to die, after midnight at Menard for killed her brother for Ins. Money; also the fellow what she had to help her, will also die. The Holy Name Society of Red Bud is sponsoring a card party to nite, with $5. Attendance prize, we didn’t go, its to cold. Major Bowes program surely was good tonite. Bert [Bertille] paid $1.47 – 18 hrs. electric.

Sunday, Sept. 19, 1937

Went to Red Bud; Fr. prayed for the sick of the parish. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came had dinner here, brought samples of apple butter, tastes pretty good; they went out to Henry’s this afternoon, get haircut. Floraville have church pinic [sic] & annual home coming today. there is Holy Name Society Rally held at Mascoutah today, for all parishes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came about 3:30 o’clock, Bert [Bertille] went along to Floraville pinic [sic], till about 9 came home again, didn’t win nothing raffled 7 quilts, went to Waterloo, Millsdadt [sic], Belleville & St. Louis.

Wednesday, April 29, 1936

Pap & Rose took load wheat 86ยข to Waterloo & got chick mash. Rained last nite a shower; but not near enough. Irene Reheis of Belleville & her piano pupils are having a recital & dance at Hotel Belleville tonite, & there is a euchre in the school hall here given by the Holy Name Society; just everything, in one nite. We planted flower seed nasturiums [sic]. Friedrich of Belleville was here agent for paint, alumium [sic] $2.95 gal. delivered. Pap went out on business. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he stayed across the street, has a bad cold, he went to bed over there. Rose & Bert went along with her to the euchre in school hall, she got a broom, we didn’t get nothing.

Thursday, Feb. 13, 1936

Raining all nite; warm this morning 34 above. Josie Keller’s birthday. George Wagner got 1 lb butter. A man here begging for something to eat. A Stumpf girl 7 yrs. age died at St. Mary’s Hospital, from fractured legs, she is from Waterloo, was broadcasted over radio, E. St. Louis Station. So many coal trucks went down today; coal is pretty hard to get now, a restaurant burned at New York, last nite; A womens club gave party & dance, a Holy Society, priest was also present; 200 people were dancing flames spread on through floor. It also was said, that they never seen so many accident along the road like today, cars turned over lying in ditches from the icy roads, & foggy weather, at & around St. Louis, terrible.
