We cleaned front & bedroom today, little cloudy & rainy. Schwarz from Mound Ill was here selling apples we took 2 bus. 75¢. winesaps Roman Beautys & 1 bu. twigs 65¢, half for Leona. Uncle Ret’s [?] birthday. Al Gauen came & got 2 hams 24½ lbs. 35¢ & ½ bu. sweet potatoes 50¢. Berti baked molasses cookies. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Belleville to Breautigams funeral from Gunlack chapel to cemetery. Papa used mullin leaves this evening for the first time.

Monday, April 2, 1934

Beautiful Easter Mon. We washed, ironed, fried in meat. Today is a funeral at Hecker, Catholic cemetery, Irene Durang’s from Newton, Kansas, ship to St. Louis Union Station at 7:30 & there Gundlach has charge & buried at 9:30 here. Mr. Lester Bruns 29 & Melissa Weigand 27, wedding today; Hosto Parsonage at Smithon [sic]. Rosalia & papa went out to haul wood together. Berti spaded chick yard. We went over to Renneckers tonite a little while. Eggs 14¢.

We canned 4 pint peas yesterday, & having beans for dinner today. George Wagner finished up this morn. he had lunch & dinner here. Papa paid him 50¢ half day. We washed the Whippet & then drove out through the country towards evening to Nowland on Gundlach Place. Hugo Probst & Wilma Reheis are being married at 2 o clock at Smithon [sic] parsonage, she is to have white dress & wreath, & the bridemaid [sic] Irene Reheis will wear blue, Robert & Hugo wear businis [sic] suits, we had no invitiation, to the wedding dance at Daab’s Club House, so we didn’t go. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here before they went; but we where gone. Rheinhardt was to furnished music for the dance. Henry & family where up this evening.
