Went to mass. Martin Fahey was buried last day, he was in church on holiday 15. died suddenly. Mr. Geo Braun, of Hecker is getting buried this afternoon at Red Bud 1:30. Orville Schmidt & Lorreta Braun were published last time today, wedding Wed. morn. here at 9 o clock mass; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Henrys family & Gregsons are all invited with special cards, of invitation to Log Cabin Wed eve. that is also Uncle Freds wedding day. Mr Clem Parker & Mamie Eichenseer were published 1st time here morn. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went down Miss. bottoms this afternooon. Rained again little shower. Freeburg have Homecoming.

Went to Leo’s threshing. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Leona helped; pap made straw stack; he finished had them for dinner, lunch & machine guys & pitcher for supper; got 714 bus. from 31 acres. & @ 63 [cents]. top price. good wheat & turned out good. Bert [Bertille] went home did feeding. it was 10 o’clock till we got home; worked late to finish.

Went to mass. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went out to Henry’s this afternoon. Leo & family were also there & Geodell’s they were combining, doesn’t go so good we had lunch there. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were at Leo’s they weren’t at home, so they came here had lunch.

Rose [Rosalia] brought Marita, going to make hay this afternoon. We went up, pap had to help, had lunch & supper, made 3 loads. Henry birthday today 35 yrs. oled, & also there [Henry and Leona] 11 wedding Ann. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up; plowed there lot, put it in corn, had our horse to work. Our baby chiks [sic] stilling dying, going to use Walkohl tablets now in drinking water. Bill [Klein] came & took Bert [Bertille] along to Henry’s birthday. Geodelles & Clevelands were there, cake was served.

Wednesday, May 10, 1939

Peterson of Michigan was here selling jar [? – unclear] canners; we bought 1 – $1.35 set; yesterday. Rose [Rosalia] & Marita, Leona & Billy [Willis] were all here for lunch & dinner we stretched curtains; everybody’s; planted 65 cabbage plants from Rose. Mertz paid 13 [cents] eggs. Nice day.

Cut lawn etc. Went to Waterloo to Opac [? – unclear] Crooks sale, everything cheap; kitchen range $1.50. Mrs. Geodelle bought table for Leona $1; we got flour barrel for Rose [Rosalia]. Admiral Eichelmann Waterloo & Margaret Reneicker of near Red Bud were married Apr. 30. at E. St. Louis in St. Patricks parsonage. by Fr. Byre; at present making there home with grooms parents Rud Eichelmann. Clyde Pautler of Evansville have baby boy since Apr. 10 now have boy & girl; Robert [Brand] took central Ex. at Waterloo today. We got 15 1/2 [cents] for shipping coop chickens for 23. – 115 lbs @ 15 1/2 & for 1.4 lbs. @ 6 [cents] from McLain Bros. at St. Louis.

Had beef soup dinner. Pap’s birthday 61 yrs. old. Clemens Schlotmann Sr. of Red Bud died will be buried Fri. morn. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & pap went down to see him this afternoon, he just had a stroke 10 o’clock yesterday morn. 69 yrs. they went home & came back again for supper; Henry & family & Leo & family & Bill [Klein] were here this eve. Bert [Bertille] put a piece over radio, German Band for a whole set, birthday. Minnie Staufenbiel, was here wants to go along to funeral Fri. at Red Bud. Ralph Wiegand accessor came this eve.

Ex. for confirmation in Evangical [sic] church today, girls have to wear all white. Berniece Wagner, Wilma Birkner, Myrtle Neff & Jeneate [sic] Geoddel. Went to mass. Mrs. Mauer asked for the bake sale to be on Apr. 8, we gave 50 [cents]. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, she went to church. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Henry’s. they weren’t at home; took ride pass club houses & over to Leo’s awhile. Tonite they came here & we went to Henry’s; celebrating birthdays.

Saturday, March 25, 1939

Nice day. Went to the funeral of, Tom Crowe at Waterloo, wasn’t very large. Pallbearers were Levi Ganley, Joe Mueth, Fred Reheis, Ben Schilling, Emil Geodelle, Jeff Payne. German band played for a whole bunch of Paderborn. Neff & Karban’s, Cortner’s also for me & Bill Klein, all boys & girls, & said from St. Louis. Alfred May & guy were here this afternoon. We went to Tipton to see Farago. Willie & John Braun were here again for signing & leasing oil ground again. Leo & family & Bill [Klein] came this eve. Bert [Bertille] fixed Roses [Rosalia] hair.

Beautiful day. Boys stayed here & Henry & Leona went to Belleville; took clover seed @ 4 [cents] – 3 20 lbs. all had dinner here. Rob. [Robert] got mail. Bert [Bertille] got a cross & 16 more to sell – @ 25 [cents]; ain’t going to sell any.
