Henry & Leona came, went to E. St. Louis left the kids here, they had dinner, with us, that is the boy’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & papa went to Waterloo, paid tax $224.37 & then went to Schaefer’s sale by Foster Pond, didn’t buy anything. Mr. Al Gauer stopped in wanted buy hams; also were some art advertisers around. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here. It surely was awful hot this afternoon. Papa got hair cut, this morn.

Thursday, Sept. 20, 1934

Painting side walls, cleaning; to took just 3 rolls [of wallpaper] cutting & 3 side for our kitchen. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came had dinner here, also did Henry, he was working up here. Mrs. Alice Brand & Lucille & Zita Carol were here, short visit of about ½ hr; she wants to go to several places here in town; all look the same yet; getting older of course. Eggs 21¢. Sheriff Gauen got 2 hams 25½ lbs. at 25¢ this afternoon.

Sunday, Jan. 11, 1931

Henry & family were here for dinner today, after that we played pinochle.  Papa & Leona won against Henry & Bertille.  Angela Eichenseer was here this afternoon, then Rosalia & Angela & Papa & Bertille we won 4 games out of 5 that one we lost.  Fr. Grootens has a sermon about the bank this morning.  He said the Waterloo Bank.  Jas. Schmidt, Roy Gauer, Dr. Pintler & him were going to Springfield tomorrow & find out about it.  This evening Angela came back again then we played 2 more games of pinochle & Rosalia & Angela won both of them.  We heard today that Rosie & Mamie Meuth left Joe Meuth’s last Tues. evening, walked off & went to Waterloo.  There are a good many cars passing tonight I guessed there all going to the dance down at Wiegand’s, we were invited, but didn’t go.  It rained all day.
