Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner & supper. Omer Schilling was here this afternoon; We went to Pautler’s to a free double birthday dance tonite, big crowd. Rythmn [sic] Kings playing; Also was a free dance at Donahue’s but wasn’t very much; Dreamland had to close up to. Mr. Ed Frisch & Parrot was here looked at our horse.

Papa went out to Henry’s, the billy horse died before they got home last night, Rendering Works, got him this morning. Papa shocked up the oats bundles that were down. We cut lawn, cleaned & scrubbed basement. Gus Frisch got cistern water here to drink; working on the road. It rained this afternoon a little, but not enough to stop threshing around here, but other places had to quit. The paper has that Mr. Emil Kopp & Miss Florence Nelson were married quitely [sic] at Granite City Ill. on last Wed. June 20, they had no attendants at the ceremony. The groom is the son of George Kopp who reside east of Waterloo, he is employed in St. Louis for some time, were they will make there home, she is from St. Louis. He is also a muscian [sic], member of the Waterloo Municipal Band & saxophone player in the Moonlighters Dance Orchestra. Mr. Kenneth Henerfourth & Virginia Kumke eloped to Chester Mon. night June 25, were married by Justice of Peace. The groom is a son of George Henerfourth of Maeystown and had been spending a 30 day furlough here from the U.S. Navy. He is stationed on the S.S. Tennesee. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Orlinda Kumke of Waterloo & Herman Oldendorph is now employed with Becker’s Mill of Red Bud & has charge of the Burksville Station Elevator which they recently purchased from the Monroe Milling Co, they began buying wheat & at this old landmark Wed. & will have flour, bran, & shorts on hand for patrons. There was a accident in Hecker, by Eichenseer store, a Chev. coach & St. Louis Dairy truck, the car had the fender & hub damage, but nothing seemed serious had a argument.

Papa went up in woods. Willie Ganley is going to haul logs this morning. Started the fire in brooder house, Thurs. our chicks come. Mrs. George Haudrich got operated on appendix & tumor & is in a serious condition in Hospital at Belleville. The Sewing Club of Red Bud are giving a euchre, 500 & lotto tonite in the parish hall. Mr. Emil Rubel was here counted the pigs to see if it corresponce [sic] with that contract. Mrs. Rennecker brought some flower over, dalias [sic] etc. Clara Wagner & kids were here awhile. Gus Frisch came wanted to see if pap was going to vote. Today is Primary Election. We cooked kettle soap, cleaned upstairs. We went to the euchre, didn’t get no prizes. Bert had 8 points but no prizes. Bobby Cowell received attendance prize a small rug. The quilt was won by Mr. & Mrs. Joe Mauer’s youngest child.

We washed & ironed, patched. George Wagner & kids where here awhile. Strodt was here from Burksville & wanted to buy a house, but it was too much money for him. Jack Ganley bought $30.00 part interest this morn. he works at Phil Braun’s helping to build a shed; they had frolic yesterday putting it up, they called over the lines, everybody was welcome to help. It rained this afternoon. We heard there where 5 families from the city moving out to Lords Corner, all boys that where raised in Lords Corner, starting in farming. Nick Frisch from that corner is moving on Wm. Sheets place by New Athens. Papa sewed alfalfa seed this afternoon, with Meng’s sewer.

Ed Meng was here this morn, him & George Wagner are going to a sale in the bottom today. Papa went to Matt Frisch’s sale by Oak Grove, bought chicken coop feeder for $1.10, lot of people & everything brought a good price. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary Henry & family where all at Marquadt’s sale in Waterloo & bought lots of junk. George Wagners’ family where here this evening.

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon. George Frisch from Lords Corner have a little baby boy 2 weeks old, they now have 2 children. Mamie & Clarence where here this eve.

Mr. Harbaught the mineral feed man was here. Aunt Mary got the mail today. Mr. Laut looked at our pond. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Ettling, Henry, Wm. Ganley where digging the pond, they where here for dinner. They worked about 6 hrs, because it rained this afternoon. Ed Meng, H. M. Hill where here & looked at it. There was a lady here, bought 5 lb. sprs. 19¢ lb. Henry lost a heifer. Hon. Fred Kern passed away Mon. morning 4:30, got a parlyitic [sic] stroke. he was Editor of the Belleville News Democrat. Osie Neff & John Meuth had a most terrible accident today, they where crossing a bridge by Frisch korns [?] in Lord’s Corner, with a engine, when the bridge broke, the engine is still in the creek yet. Osie was scaled pretty bad on his leg, the skin was all of & his chest, John Meuth has a hole through his hand & has it in a sling. Osie say’s if it wouldn’t of been that Johny was there he, would still be lieying [sic] there. Gus. Klotz is sick in bed next thing to appendix. He has it in his side. Dr. Schmidt wife of Red Bud was buried this afternoon, she had pneumonia.

Papa is hauling the fresh coal in the basement for this year. He hauled 2 loads this morning. Henry was here this afternoon, he was talking about getting his hogs vacinated [sic], Alf. Geodelle, Joe Schilling have there. There are getting them vacinated [sic] all over. Papa went over by Steve Rennecker’s awhile. There was a gent here selling Oriental Rugs. It is awful hot these days. Odillo Eichenseer & 2 of his friends from St. Louis left last Friday, for Chicago, he covered a distance of 900 miles with his new car. They took a 40 miles ride on the lake on a speed boat. Papa was over at Rennecker’s this afternoon, & Steve he told him, today was his 40 yr. wedding anniversary, so tonight we all went, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry’s family, Gus, Klotz, Adam Brauns, Ed Neff, Gus Frisch, the evening was spent in musci [sic], cake, soda, wine where the refreshments served. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon, papa had to help him, he got his hogs vacinated [sic] Quirin did the work for $8.55. Albert Cleveland Grover where there, he brought theres up to & got it vacinated [sic], he has only the one. The egg man was here, we sold 3 doz. 19¢. A man selling rugs, & one taking pictures of babies where here.

Papa, Rosalia, Bertille went to Waterloo this afternoon to Miss Frischs sale. We stopped at Henry’s when we came back. We found 30 eggs.
