Sunday, Aug. 20, 1939

Went to mass. Martin Fahey was buried last day, he was in church on holiday 15. died suddenly. Mr. Geo Braun, of Hecker is getting buried this afternoon at Red Bud 1:30. Orville Schmidt & Lorreta Braun were published last time today, wedding Wed. morn. here at 9 o clock mass; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Henrys family & Gregsons are all invited with special cards, of invitation to Log Cabin Wed eve. that is also Uncle Freds wedding day. Mr Clem Parker & Mamie Eichenseer were published 1st time here morn. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went down Miss. bottoms this afternooon. Rained again little shower. Freeburg have Homecoming.

Sunday, Aug. 21, 1938

Went to mass. Pretty warm. Freeburg have homecoming today, pinic [sic] at Wartburg. Went to Freeburg seen KMOX Radio Stars, Pappy Cheshire & gang, Frankie, Patsy, Roy Iruern [? – unclear], Sons of Prairie, Mickey Allen, Gene Rogers & few others, they put on 2 hrs. show & musci [sic], was good. Roy Ivers & gang were also playing for dance at Milsdadt [sic] Vegutle [sic – Vegetable] growers pinic [sic]. Keims had free dance at Floraville, musci [sic] by 2 girls. Erwin Lizinger & wife & Mr. & Mrs. Hess of St. Louis, stopped awhile at noon, going to Freeburg pinic [sic]. Maniers also had a bunch out from St. Louis; had 25 young chickens. Fisher of Floraville stopped in to look at hogs; bought them & say to dear, so he left.

Saturday, Aug. 21, 1937

Awful hot today. So many sales, Martin May, at St. Joe. Krug & near Red Bud & Schelsmidt in Red Bud. Cathill 6 min west of Red Bud. Pap went to Krug’s sale, but it got cloudy, so he went home. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Red Bud to sale; & did it rain, so heavy, you couldn’t see the slab for all water; they sold while it was raining articles in house, had good sale lot people, Hy & family, Mrs. Geodelle were all down, we didn’t get nothing. had heavy rain & wind here to; picked 2 bus. peaches of ground made preserve & caned [sic] good ones. Bert went with Wagners to Paderborn to Totsch’s free dance, fish fry & turtle soup, good crowd. Skaers played music. Freeburg homecoming today.

Saturday, Aug. 17, 1935

Papa went out to Henry’s. Clarence Wittenauer’s milk truck struck Henry’s colt & knocked it in the air, is awful bad, has a big hole in shoulder; Wittenauer has insurance, & he got the veterain [sic – veterinarian] out; & bandaged it up a little. Pretty serious they say. Henry, Dick, Grover, Emil, all up making hay had dinner, 2 loads here & took 1 load home; today & last nite; he broke the wheel of, so this morning he went up to get Emil’s wagon & had the colt loose & sure it had to get hit. Casper Horschmann has sale on the Barney Kaiser farm this afternoon. Al. May auctioneer. Ivo Buehler is moving Louis Voges from Sethfest farm to Cowell place in blackjacks, from which Esthers [Estkers?] moved to the bottoms, Aaron Papbenberg moved them. Freeburg Homecoming today. Donahues has a free dance tonite. Blossom City Boys playing. We went out to Henry’s to see the colt, it eats, but still lies down.

Saturday, Aug. 20, 1932

Papa got crushing done. There was a man here & wanted to buy eggs, from St. Louis, but we didn’t sell him any. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to get some oats. Today is Freeburg home coming. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to spend the evening here, her & Rosalia & Bert [Bertille] went down to Geo. Lorberg’s to get a watermellon [sic], but he had just sold them all in Red Bud & didn’t have no more for sale, so we couldn’t get any.

Today is Freeburg Home Coming & also a lot of sales.  Papa went to Altoff sale at Wartburg, IL.  He bought some disc plates for .25¢.  Fred Schaefer is moving into part of Albert Monike’s house.  Lester Gregson’s have a little boy.
