Monday, Jan. 18, 1937

Henry & family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were all here for dinner, helping us, clean 2 ducks, & baked 7 cakes & 10 pie crusts, cleaned basement etc. A fellow around selling pencils 2 for 5¢. Rosalia got a letter from Fr. Stern, congratulations & God’s blessing, for a happy wedded life. Beautiful day. Pap & Henry & Uncle Fred all went to Kammler’s Hall for a Farm Bureau & Benifit [sic] meeting, the hall was to cold & saloon not big enough, lot of farmers present, reelected new members, Ruhel – & President etc. Got the chev. license No. 655 – 890. Sure lot of people down with flu.

Monday, June 8, 1936

We washed ironed. Pap went to Waterloo, to Farm Bureau Meeting. Emil was here & Jac. Erle. Brand’s family came this evening. Mrs. Ed. Moffit won the Ford V.8 at Dupo. Sure hot 93 at 4:30 over the radio. Eggs 17¢ spring chix 19.

Monday, April 13, 1936

We washed ironed. Pap & Henry hauling wood. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, she went to Minnie’s & he worked garden. Mrs. Geo Freund, Joe & neighbor lady, came got the mare & colt, he lead the mare & colt, through town, & then rode it home through the prairie; Uncle helped him on hard road; paid $75 & balance a note. Pap & Henry went to Sam Mosio’s to Farm Bureau Meeting. A-A-A contract it is a new plan now again. Bert Thompson brought our 2 settings of duck eggs 70¢. Louis Geossling was here he is a agent selling door mats $1.25; he was hurt in the sewer project in Waterloo, rocks fell, & smashed his toes, pretty bad, dangerous.

Sunday, Jan. 14, 1934

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner & supper here; this evening we all went down to Levi Gregson’s; had social conversation, looked at picture, played musci [sic], had cookies & apples. Henry was up & him & papa went to the public school took the Farm Bureau Meeting & got there government wheat checks, papa’s was from Pabst $5.06, & Henry’s $22.58; Hughes & Kolmer spoke about the hog & corn, question Mr. Vogt came to see Uncle Fred about renting his place, but it isn’t for rent. Minnie Staufenbiel came to see Aunt Mary, wrote a letter to John Hempe today. Lauts got election washer. Walter Hecke moved to Waterloo last Sun. Alvin [Irvin – ed. correction] Albrecth nee Bertha Muenth have a little baby boy, called it James; now have 4 children.
