Holiday. Went to 6 o’clock mass at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile after church, they have 13 hr. Devotion today. Bill [Klein] & Bertille went to Belleville, ordered wall of paper & went to E. St. Louis & St. Louis on business, stopped a few min’s at Uncle Ed’s shop. got a tarpaulin at Child’s for Leo 14 x 20 – $9.13 with tax. Dr. Werth have a baby girl. Orlin Skaer’s have a boy at Red Bud hospital; Ethel Prediger is home again from Belleville hospital, going to call there girl Madeline.

Thursday, Dec. 8, 1938

Raining today. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] brought baby [Marita] here & Bert [Bertille] went along to Belleville, had dinner here, Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary also at Belleville, Caming was here again. Emil came this afternoon awhile. Hecker church have 13 hr. Devotion today. Bill [Klein] & Bert went to Paderborn Sodality of Young boys & girls had banquet, given by Father Weskamp others playing cards, eating & drinking, & followed by dancing, musci [sic] by Jac. Schoenborn, new accordion & also Rheinhardt.

Sunday, Oct. 9, 1938

Went to Red Bud; Mauer going around with book, taking collection for dining room suite for priest, pap gave $1. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon she went to devotion & meeting he was here; then after when [sic – went] to Wustmark, Bill & Bert went also in eve. got dish playing bluey, A. Mary got 2 blankets & bread box playing Liz Boll won quilt, that was raffled out; nice crowd.

Thursday, Sept. 8, 1938

Awful hot day; no breeze. Washed, ironed. It rained yesterday at New Athens & Marrissa. but not here. Leo & family came this eve. took tomatoes along green & ripe ones. Levi Gregson, Emil & Noel & Agnes are all out at Clevelands’ tonite eating watermelons. Levi took bucket ripe tomatoes along home. They have devotion for 3 nites here starting tonite till Sat. eve at tridium for happenings at London which is going to take place soon.

Saturday, Dec. 11, 1937

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Berti [Bertille] went Belleville this afternoon. Henry came had crushing done. Not so cold today. Went to Red Bud this eve; Devotion to Blessed Virgin Mary, beautiful.

Friday, March 12, 1937

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went along with us to Red Bud to Sl. Doyle’s funeral he was 34 yrs. old sick quite awhile, 3 weeks today there he was taken to the hospital, he leaves his wife & 2 children, 4 yr & 6 yrs. of age, we didn’t go to the cemetery, made it to late, they had dinner here then went to Waterloo took Leona & Billy along to Chas. Geodelle’s funeral was also very large; & beautiful bouquets. We planted about 68 cabbage plants this eve. for 10¢ at Schmidts; getting colder tonite, sleeting. Waterloo Church had 40 hr. Devotion last week ending Sun. nite. Ben Schilling returned home from a week sightseeing in Colorado. Geo. Schilling has for sale Omers chev. coupe, wagon, corn cultivator harrow, gas engine; to sell reasonable; its advertised in the paper.

Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1936

Holiday. Went to 6 o’clock mass. Aunt Mary came here had dinner here. Uncle Fred & Aunt & pap went to Wagner’s sale this afternoon, beautiful day. All had supper here. She went to church closing of 13 hrs. devotion. Fr. Orlet making the sermon. Leo came & took us all along up to there place, played cards, the kids did. 4 of us, the rest talked; also looked at pictures, etc, had cake & wine. Pap bought bench, spool table, fruit jars, & etc. at the sale, everything cheap.

Feast Day. Cloudy & rained last night. They have 13 hr. Devotion in Hecker parish today; Armin Geodell’s called there baby girl Marlene Norma. Wagner’s went to Waterloo show last night, to see “Shirley Temptte” [sic – Shirley Temple] & “Curly Top;” said it was awful nice.

Good Friday, April 19, 1935

Good Friday. We went to services at Red Bud; brought fish from A. Cowell’s butcher shop; jack salsoms [sic]. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped after church awhile; went home. We went to TreOne [?] Devotion from 12 to 3. The rabbit was busy making eggs this evening. Sent Josie a Easter Greeting; to mail in St. Louis; tomorrow.

We all went to Waterloo church, went to Geodell’s seen Leona, she is still the same yet. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon; she went to church this afternoon; they have thirteen hours devotion; today. Father Simon has the service. Mr. Gus Etler of St. Louis, came here on business. It is starting in to sleet, warm out. Mr. Etler gave the boys tablets & pencils, each penny. Snowing this evening.
