Pap got crushing done. Went to see Wm. Wiegand. This afternoon went to Adam’s sale on Jenning Farm in Lord’s Corner, bought 5 doz. fruit jars 2¢ a piece; he brought a sewing machine along for Rob. Lauts & wardrobe for Watchel’s, he had the truck so he just brought these things along. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stoped [sic] they went to Belleville, they sewed lettuce, cabbage & radish seed. This evening they came up & Bert went along to Waterloo to Quernheim to see Mrs. Peter Matzenbacher who died Thurs. will be buried tomorrow; she is so delicate, doesn’t look like herself. She was 48 yrs. old; & has been suffering quite some time. Henry stopped got crushing done; brought pictures along up; he started in sewing oats this morn; lot people started today.

Saturday, Feb. 27, 1937

Snowing lightly all day; Leo & Rose came, him & papa went to Wendell Forness sale at Parrots corner; Leo got jug 15¢. Mr. & Mrs. Forness are going to move to Belleville & son in law Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Schilling. Rose helped quilt all afternoon. Eggs 19¢. Henry got crushing done & stopped in a short while. It was in paper that Mrs. Jul. Rausch found one of her hens had laid an easter egg dark, had yellow band around it. Alois & Gertie came short while, asked Bert to be confirmation sponsor for Thresa [sic] Cortner, at Paderborn on Apr. 5.

Saturday, Jan. 9, 1937

Pap got crushing done. We went to Belleville this afternoon, went to church & to stores; got some rugs for bedroom. Cold & sleet ice, & raining tonite. Was 16 above at 7 o’clock this morn.

Pap got crushing done; then hauled load wood. We baked cookies this afternoon. Beautiful day. Emil’s 53 yrs. old.

Saturday, Nov. 14, 1936

Went out to Henry’s took Leona & Billy [Willis] along to the funeral of Mrs. McDermott, very large; nephews pall bearers were Simon & Alois Havey, Gene Fahey & 2 McDermotts Luke’s boy’s. We met Uncle Ed, haven’t seen him for so long. Pap got crushing done. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went to Mohr’s sale at Red Bud, bought 2-5 gal. jars. We quilted all afternoon & eve. Awful cool night.

Halloween. Pap got crushing done. The tree man was here. We went to Red Bud church this afternoon. No tricks played much.

Pap got crushing done, went out driving with the buggy & horse & mule, nice ride, I think. Traded the mule for white mare horse by Pleuger. Oak Grove has a free dance tonite, Carle Orch.

Pap & Rose went out to Henrys to get feed for crushing. Joe came & Vic Eichenseer put in electric ground wire this afternoon. Nights are cool.

Pap got crushing done, & got hair cut. Henry came up got yeast, & brought a pr. [pair of] Billy [Willis] shoes to be exchanged. We went to Belleville this afternoon, went to church. Joe Griffin came & looked at our radio, repaired it, works fine now. Henry & family came this evening got the shoes again. Warm today.

Saturday, Feb. 22, 1936

Washington Birthday. Pap got crushing done this morn. Henry did also, stopped here awhile. Floyd has the mumps now. Mrs. Renneker came & got some cottage cheese, also Lauts & a fellow here yesterday from Millsdat [sp] – looking for shoats, we sent him out to Henry’s, he bought them – 6 – $35. They say Walter Neff & Slyveria Helfrich are being married in St. Louis today.
