Cooler but no rain. Henry & Floyd was here yesterday disking the Stuble field; had lunches & dinner & finished up. Mrs. Freund & Creses & girl friends from St. Louis came, paid the $75 balance on mare & colt, had lunch; that was also yesterday. Harry Baskplah was also here, collected his $9.00 cold service from Henry. We went to Waterloo to Columbia, this morning. Cliffords baby is getting buried this afternoon 2:30 to cemetery. Rev. Hosto came to the house. Thunder & storm here this evening from 4:30 till 7 o’clock, the lightening struck Louis Voges barn on Cowell place, burned it down, grain & hay, ect [sic], big loss. Had lot hail at Waterloo, not many here, but a good rain. Mrs. Hy. Meng is pretty sick at present.

We washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, brought tomato & cabbage plants along; for Leona. Henry & family came to. & also Bill & Mike, Creses & Mrs. Al Scheinder & her boy. Creses, Rosalia & Bertille went to the baseball dance in Kammler’s hall. They pulled our machine in to Waterloo, behind Bill’s; he is going to finished it in there. Papa went over to Meng’s awhile this morn. eggs are 9¢.

Report came over the phones this morning that Hershel Blackburn was dead, he was lying beside the plow yesterday, kicked by a mule, this morn. is dead. Papa went up town. Mr. John Whiteside had a run away with horses & wagon, & he was drug along under the wagon, his skull is split, & in a poor condition. We went to Belleville this afternoon, Rosalia got a spring coat for $1.95  6¢ sale tax; at Quality Store. We received a card from Creses, saying that she is spending a few day at home, we should come & see her, she is going to Chas. Sensel’s barn dance May 6. It is the paper the marriage of George Whitkamp 33 & Hilda Fritz 22 where married last Sun; afternoon Apr. 30 in the Evangical [sic] church, Mrs. Joe Geodelle & Gus Fritz the attendants.

Bobby birthday 7 yrs. old; an a pretty nice day. We had frost for 3 morning already. The funeral of Mrs. Frivegolle passed here then yesterday afternoon, from the Peter Rocider’s residence to Round Prairie cemetery & church. We took the brooder stove down & put it in the chicken house now, & carried our chicks out, we counted 404 that we took out. Bertille got the mail, a letter from Creses. It sure is some funny weather, raining & snowing awful. We didn’t get out to the birthday; to much rain. Cleveland came there.
