Monday, Dec. 27, 1937

Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had breakfast & supper here going to stay over nite again, awful warm out. Went out to Henry’s butchering, had dinner. Boys got piona [sic – piano] accordion from Santa Claus for Christmas. Lena Meng was here to see Uncle Fred. Uncle Fred fixed the pump for Emil, after we came home from butchering. Frank Emery died this morn. 2 oclock is by Wagners. We played cards this eve. pinochle. Lena Meng stopped in on way town.

Friday, January 1, 1937

Went to Red Bud mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came awhile after church. We went out to Henry’s, had dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came also in afternoon we played cards & seen the kids presents from Santa Claus, had lot of nice things. Mr. & Mrs. Orlet & Leo came this evening.

Tuesday, Dec. 25, 1934

Christmas Day. Went to 5 o clock mass at Waterloo, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile before high mass here at 9 o clock. We went out to Henry’s, had dinner. Walter Reheis also came. Henry had to take the chains of off his car, gave him 2 cigars, then went to Belleville to see Hilda, was coming out by 3:30 again. The roads are terrible, & weather is too, gloomy, hasey [sic] & cloudy, raining. Received a Christmas Greeting from Miss Freund of 906 Rusell Ave. St. Louis yesterday. We didn’t go to the program at the Evangical [sic] Church, because rain.

Monday, Dec. 24, 1934

Baked bread, put up the tree. We went to Waterloo this afternoon. Henry & family came this evening, Santa brought lot of presents; but he didn’t appear in person, he was at Wagner’s; Rosalia got prayer book, Berti bedroom slippers, pap also; from Henry & Leona.

Sunday, Dec. 23, 1934

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up all day, had dinner. Henry & boys came this afternoon. him & papa went to the meeting & paying out of wheat & checks, $37.18 at the school house first, & Mr. Hill wouldn’t give them the key; then went to Griffins Hall, upstairs, but there were so many people, the floor was to weak, so they went to Griffins saloon, there they were paid out & they had no meeting, that is speaking today, which they was going to have. Mr. Ed. Parker came on business, this afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker was over tonight, played 3 games pinochle 2 to 1. The boys Robert & Floyd got so much things from the teacher Kruse; ½ doz. oranges, 4 lbs. candy & nuts, play things, Henry cigar.

Tuesday, Dec. 6, 1932

It rained a little last night, warm again today. We are baking bread. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Uncle Fred’s this morning had dinner there, made 2 blouse shirts for the boys for Christmas. It got cloudy & black out in the northwest & thunder & lighten, wind, hail rain this evening, & turned cold.

Friday, Dec. 26, 1930

This morning we all went to church.  The Eichenseer’s kids were all here this morning.  Harold, Cyril, Clarence, Lucinda.  Them boys all got pocket knifes for Christmas from Santa Claus.  Today Bill Freund was here for dinner, he brought Rosalia & Bertille each a scarf for a Christmas present.  Rosalia got the mail this morning.  I seen in the papers that Al Geodelle of Waterloo have a little girl.  Mr. McCarthy teacher of the Hecker Public School had a Christmas Program & also Santa Claus was there, he received many beautiful present, powder, perfume, shaving outfit from the school children, & he presented them each with a bag of candy.  School is closed now till Monday, Jan. 5 1931.  The author Mr. Harris, of the piece “After the Ball” passed away at the age of 65, I seen in the paper.

Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1930

Mr. Rhein was here this morning & delivered our victrola.  This afternoon we all went to confession.  This evening Santa Claus came.  Henry & Leona & family were here all night, & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here till about 10 o’clock.  Papa got a tie, shirt, garters for Christmas.  Rosalia got 2 handkerchiefs, a box powder, perfume, garters, puff, handkerchief, 75¢, scarf.  Bertille got garters, perfume 2 bottles,powder, cat [?], 75¢, scarf.  We played victrola this evening & also 6 handed game of pinochle & Papa & Uncle Fred & Bertille were the winners.

Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1930

We send off a few Christmas Greeting today.  This morning we went to Belleville with our meat & eggs.  We bought some tree ornaments & also a few presents.  This afternoon went up to see the Children’s Christmas Program.  It was nice.  Adm. 11¢ the whole family.

Monday, Dec. 8, 1930

Today is Church Holiday.  We all went to first mass this morning & then came home & ate breakfast & dinner.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary & Emil were all here, after that Oscar Birkner’s family came to get the wash stand.  Emil was here to see about butchering.  Henry & family went to Waterloo today.  We all went in to Belleville, Aunt Mary took some eggs along in & sold 3 doz. for .35¢.  We bought some toys for the kids Christmas presents.  The Hecker people were all mostly presented in there.  Ike Napiers moved today from the Knapp place to Ed. Meng’s again, Sensel & Pannebecker Blackburn moved him back, he was only up there about 3 months.  Adam Eckert’s birthday is today.
