Papa hauled wood. Washington birthday. Yesterday it was so hot & today it is just the opposite, north wind & cold; real sickening weather, quite a few people at Waterloo have chicken pox & measles. Mrs. Christ Buehler’s & Martha Bell’s birthday. Transfer of George Purtle to Chas. Minneman was quoted in the times $3,000.00.

Wednesday, April 4, 1934

Papa & Rosalia went in the woods; this morn. Ed. Neff has sold his tools to Hugo Probst who is going to start up a garage, Neff quit, he has chicken pox now. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening & we went to Burksville to Dugan’s Hall, Tiptown congregation was going to give a euchre & dance there, but orders came from the bishop to have it at Tiptown, so they had to take tables all out & take them there, this afternoon first. So we went back home again, looked to much like rain to drive there, went by Waterloo home stopped at Rexs got ice cream, then went home. Some Euchre, Oh. Boy!

Sunday, Feb. 18, 1934

Went to church, rain & snowed all day; stayed at home. Angela Eichenseer’s 19 birthday. Stauefenbiel’s 2 kids got chicken pox.

Friday, March 10, 1933

We fixed Aunt Marys pillow cases for the pinic [sic]. Henry & family came up, & the kids stayed here & Bertille went along to Belleville with them, & got a few articles. Ben Rausch’s farm was advertised for public auction last Sat. but no bid was made on it, so it wasn’t sold. The Schoenborn farm of 117 acres near Paderborn was sold last Sat. Mar 4, at public auction. John Schoenborn purchase the farm for $4000.00. Ed Neff build a piece to his blacksmith shop. Henry Kern recently moved from Mrs. Philip Brauns property, to Smithon [sic], Mr. Walter Hecke & family moved into Braun’s property. Henry Schenider’s daughter of Waterloo was confined to their home for having case of diptheria, & Walter Jauger having chicken pox. It is awful cold out tonite.

Saturday, Dec. 20, 1930

Papa was up town this morning, & this afternoon made a business trip out to George Sensel’s & then down to Red Bud.  The St. Louis Diary quit giving the people skim milk now.  We traded our old red Christmas tree today for a green one.  There are 3 schools going together & give a play at the Bob White Grange on Christmas Eve, one school being the Fairview School which Reuben Kammler teaches.  O.J. Maul is giving a Grand Opening Dance at Breezy Hill tonight.  Elmer Kammler’s boy Billy has the chicken pox & also Perry Laut.  There is to be a Euchre and Box Social in Tiptown on Dec. 28 Sun. night.
