Holiday. Went to Red Bud 6 o clock mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lunch & dinner, this afternoon we all went to Belleville, we got spring hats white one. Took chances on Smithon [sic] Catholic Church pinic [sic], on Sept. 2; on 12 articles from Mrs. Schaefer. Went to Renneckers awhile. Gus Klotz & family came to.

Monday, Aug. 5, 1935

We washed; ironed. Papa went in the woods. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon. Bernice got 1 dz. eggs. The prizes at Smithon [sic] yesterday were won $100.00 by Wil Grossman $50.00 Quirin girl; Eichenseer won a quilt, there was $25.00 & set harness & 22 quilts all for 10¢ chance. Bud Braun & Roy Neff was here selling chances for the pinic [sic] on 28th Aug. pap took one.

Papa went up in the woods, trimming cleaning some of the wood. Limestone fellow was here again. Wagner kids & Lucinda was here, selling chances for church pinic [sic] on the Aug. 28; we took one. Wagner’s family were here. Not much news in Waterloo paper. We got our picture.

Thursday, June 13, 1935

Henry & family came up 5:30, him & papa went horse trading to Okawville, Red Bud etc; had lunch, dinner & supper. Rain this afternoon & warm. Wagners kids were over. Catholic church pinic [sic] at Dupo, today, we have chances to win $125.00 cash & $30 quilt, 4 times. raffling. Eggs 19¢. Berti bought 1 bar soap & got a chance to win a water set by Mertz store. Rained all nite.

Monday, June 10, 1935

Cloudy & raining, Papa went out to Henry’s. We sent the whip [Whippet] Ins. off. $5.75 & book of chances on $100 & $30 quilt, & $15 & $10 at Sacred Heart church at Dupo. Fr. Moorman pastor. to be raffled on June 13; pinic [sic] & chicken supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up; told us that Ivo Buehler was taken to Belleville Hospital this morning to be operated for appendix, started yesterday evening, & it got so bad, terrible pains.

Monday, May 13, 1935

We trimed [sic] up the yard. Papa went over to Meng’s, but they didn’t do anything this morning, the insurance man Lucht, was up, this afternoon they buried the horses; hauled them out with Werner’s truck. Billy Kammler was here selling chances on a fancy quilt to be raffled at there picnic on June 2; we took one, 10¢. Mr. Alois Havey was here & repaired the roof on our house, put on shingles, & nailed them on, worked 1 hr. for 50¢. So awful hot today, to nite, rain storm again, just terrible so much rain these last few day’s, everything is so wet, especially the garden. Eggs 21¢.

Tuesday, Aug. 28, 1934

We went dug 3 bus. potatoes this morning; stopped at Henry’s, a little, brought our 3rd along too. The Ruma church pinic [sic], was postponed, last Tues. till today, on account of weather. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we all went to Ruma pinic [sic], but it was very cool; took chance on pillow slips but didn’t win them. Red Bud band furnished musci; met all the Myerscough’s; Aunt May, etc.

Monday, Feb. 5, 1934

We washed, nice day, papa went out in woods. Wrote Wm. Ganley a nice letter this morn. Pap & Rose went to the woods. A man around selling soap chips & face soap. Mr. Hill was here for news. Lucinda Eichenseer was around selling chances for quilt, have one already. Eggs are 15¢ today, top hogs $4.50. Mr. George Parrot, died Sun. buried Wed. morn, at Red Bud church & cemetery, Mrs. Joe Mauer’s father, he was 67.
