We washed, ironed; nice cool, put in clover hay. Jerome AuBuchon & girl of E. St. Louis, being married St. Patrick Church, in E. St. Louis this morning. Probst came looked at the Whip, the battery was dead, couldn’t get it started, got 1 of his in there now. Henry came & got limedust spreader. Louis Hofmeister of New Athens, have a baby girl from yesterday, all well. Clarence Hepp won the cedar chest at Smithon [sic] Sun. at homecoming.

Friday, July 31, 1936

Henry & Rob. were up, cutting & putting up hay also cut red clover, had dinner & watermellon [sic] lunch, we bought a 18 lb. 15ยข from a guy of Mo. this morn; went around, boy was it good. Seen in paper, Hy. Emery has the first a baby girl since the 28. & also Jo Sommers last Thurs. 5 girls. Mamie & Lucinda & Watchels kids came this evening awhile. Mr. Geo. Braun & son Theo. moved in with Lizzie Boll’s this week; House all fixed.

Beautiful day, cleaned upstairs, washed curtains etc. Pap went worked in woods this morn; put the brooder stove & fixed the roof on the brooder house, getting it ready for chicks. Mrs. Rennecker got 1 qt. milk. Clifford Stahlehebers have a baby girl born Mar. 14. Mrs. Zita Carrol is ill with plurisy [sic] & heart trouble; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came for services. We went to Red Bud lent devotion.
