Beautiful day, warm. Took load wheat to Waterloo $1.15. Bert [Bertille] got permanet [sic] at Colonial Beauty Shop, Vivian Ripley & Aurelia Hellmer, pap went to Morris sale, bought few articles gun etc. Went to Paderborn to Ronnenberg’s Wedding dance, large crowd Birkner Orch. received few presents, had white dress & veil; & Helen bridesmaid yellow lace dress & Alp. Karban best man; quite few strangers.

Sunday, June 14, 1936

Beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, awhile before mass. Mrs. Emma Eckert brought the veil back, had it borrowed for Emmie Solemn Coummioun [sic – Communion]. We went to Red Bud for 7:30 mass, but it is changed now to 6:30 & 8:30 masses, so we came to late, so stayed for high mass & benediction. The Evangical [sic] Church Ladies Aid got cold supper & pinic [sic] today, at church grounds. The Hecker Baseball Club has a dance at Kammler’s Hall musci [sic] by Schmidts. We went to pinic [sic] awhile. Pap went for supper, also Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary. Birkner’s Orch. played musci [sic]. Mrs. Milton Wagner won the free game of bluey, & also the quilt in lotto, & Mrs. Frieda Koreber won 1 quilt in bluey & 1 that was raffled out; sure luck. Edgar Wittenauer was stabbed with a knife last nite by Maniers, isn’t so bad; fellow from Athens; sheriff came out & took him to Waterloo Jail.

Sunday, Nov. 24, 1935

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, she went to church & to meeting, for the Thanksgiving Turkey & chicken dinner. Clara Wagner & kids came awhile; John Henkel came for his money for the hay 242 lbs. @ $9.75, highest this week. We went to Waterloo to Hy Roth’s birthday dance. Boy! nice crowd. Schumacher & Carle played. We put sleeper tickets here at the Firemen’s euchre party & dance; pretty nice crowd but mostly all elderley [sic] people. Wm Birkner’s Orch. played; none of us got prizes, we gave bridge set.

Sunday, June 2, 1935

Went to Red Bud in Uncle Fred’s car; raining all morning.We went to the Evangicals [sic] summer & pinic [sic] about 6 o’clock, had supper at home. Wasn’t much of a crowd. Birkner Orc. played musci [sic]; the quilts were won by Mr. Probst, Lena Birkner & some relative of Pabpenbergs, the first was raffled off & the other 2 by playing lotto. Harry Kammler gave a dance in the evening, spoiled the pinic [sic]. Moonlighters played. Ruth Hoffman 17 yr. old.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Red Bud to Kirsch’s sale, this afternoon, stopped here awhile, they didn’t buy nothing; brought sack chick feed along. So many birthdays today, & many dances. Karban & Buss has one at Pautler’s; free one at Burksville. Walter Reheis has his at Manier’s Hall. Henry & family came, kids stayed here & we went, Gents 25 ladies free. Birkner Orc; not much of a crowd; he had to pay $5. for hall, besides the musci [sic]; people came paid & went again. Dudenhoeffers & Gusta’s niece & family, Lester & Margaret were out. Frank & Henry came down by Papa awhile. It started in raining at 12 o’clock. Rosalia got chain letter from Ruth Hoffmann. We planted our house flowers out.

Went to Red Bud church. Emil spend an hr. with us this morn., wanted some seed oats; Nice warm day. The young people of Red Bud parish, are giving a 3 act play, name is “Everybody’s Crazy;” we all went to see it, & Boy! was it good, crowded hall, some had to leave, it was filled, having it again tomorrow night, because couldn’t all get in, players were, Ed & Leona Vogt, Melba Siebold, Gladys & Al Siefert, Harvey, Bob Cowell, Pearl Roscow, Viola Pertle, Linus Mertz, Tiny AuBuchon, Catherine May, Orvil Schmidt, Jim Tobin, Mrs. Bill Haudrich; tap dancing & singing, musci [sic] by AuBuchon Band & Kettler. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went to the euchre, given at Kammlers by Fire Co. also had nice crowd, dance after, musci [sic] by Birkner Orch.; Adm. 15ยข. Jhon [sic] Cody had opening & birthday dance, at his place, Oak Grove. Margaret McDermott is in Red Bud hospital was operated fro tumor last Tues, was getting along nicely, but isn’t very good at present; Raymod [sic] Matzenbacher, was operated for appendix Sat. afternoon also at Red Bud hospital; that is Pete Matzenbacher’s boy.
