Geo. Wagner’s butchering today came to get there hog, Hy Armstutz truck, & also J. Kammler, weighed 280 lbs. Got the check from Strecks, one weighed 305 lbs. & 7.40 & 340 lbs. .07. Pap went out on trip this afternoon, took scales back out to Henry’s, he is going to kill a beef this evening. Went to Herman Kettler’s this morn. bought mare from him for $10.00; pap walked home & Bert [Bertille] went to Orlets awhile. Ms. Crocker came got 2 bus. potatoes 50 [cents] bu. Raining this eve.

Sure hot; in Colrado [sic] at the mountains its snowing. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went to see L. Armstutz; he is getting better can talk again now, but had a piece taken out of his tongue & has it sewed again. Pap went out on a business trip, down by Red Bud. Eggs are 19¢

Rose & Bert went up to mass, funeral of Mr. Berg. Koch undertaker. It wasn’t so very large, few neighbors, & relatives. Pallbearears [sic] were Willie Ganley & Reagen, Huber McDermott, Tom Havey, Abrose Doyle, Joe Kunkel. Fr. made a very nice sermon, the body was viewed in back church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon & we all went to Belleville to Mr. John Birkner’s funeral, Uncles step brother, at the home of John Breutigam’s, & the most beautiful flowers & so many, they had. Gardener had charge, & Rev. Pessel, the service, nephews pallbearers, Armstuz’s, Birkners & Hepp’s; It was pretty large. Cold & snowing this afternoon. Rosalia took Aunt Mary over to Mrs. Staufenbeils try her dress, see if he fits all right. Eggs 14¢ Mertz’s. Rose Pour & Mamie came after we were in bed, Mrs. Pour wanted hatching eggs, but we haven’t none this year, no roosters. Adam Eckert has chicken pox; has pretty much fever.

Today is Henry Eichelmann’s sale, 3 miles east of Waterloo. Uncle Fred came up this morning and Papa took the horses & went down & got Henry Armstutz’s wagon to haul the lumber home & kindling what they bought by the new school house. Rosalia & Uncle Fred hauled it with the Whippet. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner. After dinner they went home & dressed & came back again. Then we all went to Henry Eichelmann’s sale. It was late till we got back again. Everything went pretty cheap back there.

Papa, Henry, Rosalia, Bertille, Aunt Mary went down to Red Bud to Mrs. Dunn funeral. Father Havey had the mass. Aunt Mary and Bertille went to the quilting down at Mrs. Eckert’s this afternoon. They had 2 quilts in the frames. One blue and one pink. They sure are pretty. We found 24 eggs today. It started to rain some now. Aunt Mary & Henry had dinner with us. Rosalia took 3 dozen eggs to Eichenseers & got .21¢ a dozen. There was a man came to Hecker tonite and wanted shelter because it was raining all the time. Mr. Hill & Henry Armstuz went to Waterloo this morning.
