Raining again. Emil was over awhile. Henry & family had dinner here, no school today, they went to Belleville; we finished the quilt today; just in 2 weeks today. Ordered auto licenses.

Thursday, Feb. 17, 1938

Raining all nite. Harry Wittenauer stopped in. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came had dinner & supper, helped quilt. The church people is quilting at Rennecker’s, put it in yesterday. Bert [Bertille] got invitation card for Gertie & Aloys Roth Wedding dance at Daab’s Club house next Tues. eve. There is a Wayne poultry feed meeting at Kammler’s hall tonite; sponsored by L. D. Mertz, giving away 100 lb. sack Wayne growing mash as attendance prize.

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 1938

Raining. Emil came awhile. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came, pap went along to Roth’s sale, had supper there. the sale was pretty good for condition of weather. one cow & calf brought $121; some price; sure was good for cows.

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1937

Patched & quilted. Pap went over to Emil’s went along with him to Ed. Heap’s sale at Smithton, lot of people there but things didn’t sell; Bill Vogt had some pigs there to, but took them back home again; Vogt bought them back.

Monday, Feb. 14, 1938

Valentines Day. Colder. Pap cleaned the radiator in the Chev. this morn; afternoon went in woods. Ed. Heap came got the 3 male hogs $35; Bert [Bertille] took eggs up got 14 [cents] today. They were saying about so many accidents happening, Chas. Minneman is in E. St. Louis hospital, head is crushed, & Ed. Sauer riding with him is in Red Bud, were driving a wagon, horses both dead; wagon in pieces, coming down Hill by Buheries by Red Bud, Carter’s tie hacking truck hit them, another car of the road; crippled a few people, one by Waterloo today.

Sunday, Feb. 13, 1938

Went to mass. Mrs. Joe Wacthel, Mrs. Clarence Wittenauer & baby girl Doris & Lucinda came last nite awhile. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up all day, dinner & supper; we played 2 games pinochle; there Uncle went to see Mrs. Mike Armstutz who isn’t very good at present; Bert [Bertille] went along with them out to Mueth’s to see them, Josie isn’t so bad the rest are still in hospital, but getting along well so far. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] stopped in, went to Henry’s all day. Beautiful day 74 again. We went over to see Emil – Lester Gregsons family came also. At 9:30 car drove in here, it was Ed. Heap, looked at the pigs.

Saturday, Feb. 12, 1938

Lincoln’s birthday. Beautiful day 76 degrees. We went to Waterloo this afternoon, to church, stopped at Henry’s.

Friday, Feb. 11, 1938

Pap went to Waterloo & Red Bud put ad in Saxmeyer news for sale ad. Showers today. Bert [Bertille] cleaned & quilted. Annie Jaeger of Waterloo sold her property to Sparwasser of Waterburg who will move in soon; Rahn’s will have to move, it is the next place to Geodells. Quernheim’s gave pencils away as souvenirs last Sun. at there opening; were 1600 people visited there.

Thursday, Feb. 10, 1938

Bert [Bertille] stayed at Orlets all nite, this morn, went along to Belleville, took calf in got 10 [cents]; stopped at Orlets, Mrs. isn’t feeling good today. Fr. Joe was there to. Leona & Billy [Willis] were up quilting all day, all had dinner here; Leo & Rose went home; raining last nite & today. Shield brought 8 hogs here, pap bought from him $52.00; colder, 40. Yesterday at 12 it was 72 & this morn. 35. Our order came everything O.K. Mehrmann got 6 doz. eggs paid 14 [cents] today.

Wednesday, Feb. 9, 1938

Beautiful day. Pap went up to woods. Rose [Rosalia] came this morn. helped quilt; Leo is butchering at Jake’s. Uncle Fred brought A. [Aunt] Mary up to help quilt this afternoon, he came this eve; had supper. Emil was here awhile. Al. Hoffmann came to see A. [Aunt] Mary. Bert [Bertille] went along home with Rose [Rosalia] with our Whip; went with them to Paderborn euchre, didn’t win nothing had 5 points; they had 5 points; they had a dance, also had been the priest was sick, couldn’t be there.
