We washed, ironed, beautiful day, little windy. Eggs are 25¢. Papa went to Waterloo. Rob. Laut got sack hay for his rabbits, one a week. Rosalia sewed aprons. Angela Eichenseer’s birthdy. We patched.

Sunday, Feb. 17, 1935

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up all day, for dinner & supper. Henry & family came this afternoon had supper. We went to Pautlers tonight to a birthday dance, Rythm [sic] Boy played, & Boy! what a crowd & a time. Nice day; paper had said colder.

Saturday, Feb. 16, 1935

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here, went over to New Athens to Geiger’s to enter a quilt for show. Papa went to Red Bud to the coummity [sic] Sale at the creamery. Mr. Adam Helfrich 84 of Smithton died Thurs. morning, was found dead in the chicken yard, will be buried Mon. morning there, that is Chas. Helfrichs dad.

Friday, Feb. 15, 1935

Eggs are now 26¢ again. Uncle Fred walked up, & got a few things from the store. A guy here wanted to sell toilet articles; One here yesterday selling vanilla.

Thursday, Feb. 14, 1935

Valentine Day. Nice day, but the roads, just terrible, almost impossible with the car. The funeral of Mrs. Klotz is to be held this afternoon, Wagner Undertaker, they brought her up to the church this morn, & services this afternoon, the road is to bad, for anyone to drive in there, so they will bring her to the church; she was 73 yrs. of age, her father still living; but can’t move about, is bed fast with rheumatism in his legs. Papa went to Baldwin to see a party there. We went out to Uncle Adam’s this evening, he is getting along pretty good again.

Wednesday, Feb. 13, 1935

Jo Kellers birthday. Cloudy & raining. Mr. Ed Rickers farm census taker was here this afternoon; Mamie Eichenseer, came to have her hair curled, euchre tonite. Rose & Bertie went to the euchre of the B.V.M. Sodality of Hecker parish. Bertie had 8 points, got dresser scarf. Miss Viola Purtle of Red Bud won the pillow slip attendance prize; large crowd, tables filled. Miss Doris Breautigam, of Belleville & Traveberger where married at Carlye on Jan 30, kept secret; daughter of one [? – unclear] Clara Birkner.

Tuesday, Feb. 12, 1935

Lincoln’s birthday. Made a hot bed today for sweet potatoes & tomatoes. Steve Renneker came over awhile; this morning & tonight again. Mr. Guker & Bill Braun of Red Bud were here on business this evening. Braun is a chev. sales agent. Beautiful day.

Monday, Feb. 11, 1935

We washed, ironed, pretty nice day. Art & Mr. Schaefer came with two wagons to get the hay this morning. Mrs. Wm Klotz died, sometime this morning, the bell rung. Olive Laut is helpmate. We cleaned chicken house, sent a birthday greeting to Josie Keller, it is Wed. the 13. Eggs surely took a drop today, 30¢ this morn & 25 this afternoon at the stores here, sure is awful, 5¢ at one time.

Sunday, Feb. 10, 1935

Went to Red Bud. It is cloudy again today. Art Schaefer & Clarance Kreher came here & gave us an invitation to Kammler’s Hall tonite, for surprise Agnes on her birthday anniversary. Jerry Neff is giving a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite, Adm. 25¢ for gents, ladies free. Musci [sic] by Cowboys of Rythmn [sic]. The tea set given away at Connor’s City Grocery was won by Mrs. Ed Rehling. We went to Waterloo to Jerry’s birthday, nice crowd, Neffs family where also in; we stopped at Kammlers on the way home, a little while, also had a nice crowd, Schoenborn & Schaefer playing & Helfrich boys of Paderborn & Birkner boys had a little scrap, one had his shirt all torn, they came to Waterloo after that, they had it in the saloon; they also passed cake around; here.

Saturday, Feb. 9, 1935

Rose started the “Goose Trot” quilt. Papa went to Waterloo, & Henry too get the hog business corrected. George Wagner butchered, got his hog from Joe Gregson. Mamie Eichenseer & Clarance came this evening, we played 500 Rommey. Robert Laut got sack hay for his rabbits again 15¢ worth.
