Sunday, Feb. 8, 1931

Henry & family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were all here for dinner today.  Uncle Fred & the kids also had lunch here this morning.  We all went over to see Uncle Fred’s property this afternoon.  Then, Henry & Leona & Aunt Mary went up to church to confession because tomorrow is 13 hour Adoration.  George Wagner is butchering today.  Steve Rennecker is the butcher.  Tonight is a dance at Papenberg’s, but we can’t go on account of church tomorrow.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Oscar Birkner, Hy. Ronederberg, Jerome Cortner, Clarence Rettinghouse, Ray Armbruster were all down at Evansville last night at a dance & Chicken Supper by Ronenbergs relation, Marie Davis birthday.  Papa got oil changed in the Chev., yesterday at Barthels Garage cost $1.10 12305 miles.  Philip Freund was here this evening.

Saturday, Feb. 7, 1931

Papa went out for a trip today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, they are going to plant some potatoes on their place across the street.  It sure is nice today.  George Wagner was here this evening & wanted to know if he could get water from Uncle Fred’s well for butchering tomorrow.

Friday, Feb. 6, 1931

Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning.  Papa is hauling wood.  Today is Karl Kammler’s birthday, he will be 22 years old.  I seen in the paper that Tiptown is going to have a euchre & box social on Feb. 15.  The Ladies Aid of Hecker will have one on that date too.  Papa & Rosalia went to Waterloo this afternoon with a load of wheat, 70¢ a bu. today.  It is raining this afternoon, we sure need it to.  It rained mostly all night.

Thursday, Feb. 5, 1931

Tonight is a dance at Smithton, the Kentucky Mountaineers are giving a show there.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner today.  They were cleaning at there place again.  Ed Neff was here this morn. & got 2 bus. of potatoes from Uncle Fred’s.  Aunt Mary & Bert. went to the quilting this afternoon, in the school hall.  Deukers moved into John Kammlers house, Werner helped them move with his truck.  We cut the chickens wings off this evening.  Bertille took 8 doz. eggs to Eichenseer’s, got 14¢ a doz.

Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1931

Papa went out to the cemetery this morning, because they are going to start to plow it over today.  But we don’t want it done to our lots.  Rosalia fried down sausage this morn.  There wasn’t anybody at the cemetery today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & then we went over to clean their place.  They were here for dinner.  We were just washing dinner dishes when all at once, we heard there was fire at Mrs. Deukers house.  So we all ran down there & fire was a blazing, the house burned to the ground & the shed & barn would of went too if they hadn’t called the Smithton Fire Apartment [Department].  The water was to scared or’s they could have saved the house.  They saved all the furniture down stairs, their clothing was all up stairs, that they couldn’t save.  Mrs. Ruhl just about went wild about it.  They stored all their stuff in Kammler’s Hall for the evening.  They were here this afternoon & looked at Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred’s place, it suited them allright but the rent was to high.  They went down to Barthel’s house, but the chimneys were condemned, so they couldn’t get in there.  Deukers was going to call Harold out & then talk it over with them.  Tonight they went to Walter Parrot in Red Bud.  Olivia Gregson & baby was here this afternoon while Lester helped to move the furniture.  This evening Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona & kids were all here.  The kids stayed at home with Papa, & the rest of us went to the dance down at Wiegand’s House.  Herzog gave it.  Bill Freund & Creses took Rosalia & Bertille along there.  It was a crowd there from all over.  They said there was about 500 people at the fire today.  Bill & Philip Freund was there too.  They were working at Ganleys.

Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1931

Rosalia & Bertille, Leona & the kids all went to church.  Then Papa, Rosalia, & Bertille went to Belleville with 26 doz. eggs sold 12 doz. for 15¢ & the rest for 20¢.  This eve. is meeting for the farmers again in the school hall.  Papa is hauling wood this afternoon.  He helped Henry fix fence yesterday afternoon.  John McCarthy died & will be buried tomorrow.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening.  Then we all went over to see there house across the street.  Henry & family came too this eve.  Henry went to the meeting.  Jac. Neff was here this evening & wanted to see Uncle Fred for buying some seed potatoes from him.  This afternoon Bertille washed the Chev. & Rosalia spaded a piece in the garden & sewed some lettuce seed.  Some people up by Belleville were planting potatoes today already.

Monday, Feb. 2, 1931

Today is Ground Hog day & I guess he saw his shadow & then 6 weeks bad weather.  It is so warm.  We washed curtains, & ironed this afternoon.  This morning Rosalia & Bertille went to church.  Bertille got the papers this evening.

Sunday, February 1, 1931

Henry & family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were all here for dinner today.  Elmer Kammler came here this afternoon & paid Uncle Fred’s his $10.00 rent for the first & last time.  Phillip Freund was here for supper, then we all went to the show in the new school hall.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family came all up to see it.  It sure was good.  Adm. was 10 & 25¢ and 25% of what they took in went for the hall.  They also sold candy 10¢ & in some boxes you get a coupon & on there you could win perfume, pillows, razor & many different articles.  Aunt Mary got a waste basket.  It was all over about 9:30.  They are going to be at Smithton on Feb. 5 there they will also give a dance.
